In order to support national development oriented toward marine technology development, human resources in this field are required in adequate quantity and quality. This is because sustainable development for Indonesia will heavily depend on Indonesia's success in developing marine resources. Driven by the desire to actively participate in the human resource quality enhancement program in marine technology, since 1992, the Faculty of Marine Technology ITS initiated a collaboration with The Department of Marine Technology, The University of Newcastle Upon Tyne to pioneer a postgraduate program in the field of marine technology.
The Department of Marine Technology under the Faculty of Marine Technology (FTK) opened the Marine Technology Master's (S-2) Study Program starting in the 1996/1997 academic year. From the 1993/1994 academic year to the 2004/2005 academic year, it has graduated 118 alumni out of 555 enrolled students. Starting from the 2001/2002 academic year, the Doctoral Program in Marine Technology was opened.
Supported by 42 academic staff with qualifications: 3 Professors, 13 Doctors, and 26 Masters. Available supporting facilities include: Classrooms, 10 Laboratories, a Reading Room with more than 6,000 library materials, 18 international scientific journals, Internet connection, and other facilities.
Objectives
The objective of the Marine Technology Postgraduate Education Program is to enhance independent scientific development capabilities and management skills at an adequate level to effectively and efficiently apply marine technology capabilities in solving development problems.

The Marine Technology Study Program has 5 fields of expertise that students can choose according to their talents and abilities, including:

- MARINE TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING
- MARINE PRODUCTION AND MATERIALS ENGINEERING
- COASTAL MANAGEMENT ENGINEERING
- OCEAN ENERGY ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT
Academic Activities
The Marine Technology Master's Program is conducted over 4 semesters (2 years). The total credit load is 40 credits (sks), consisting of mandatory courses, elective courses, research, and thesis writing according to the curriculum. Each course is taught by at least two academic staff members.
The Marine Technology Doctoral Program is conducted over 4 semesters (2 years), with a total credit load of 50 credits (sks), consisting of core courses, supporting courses, research, and thesis or dissertation writing according to the curriculum.
Supporting Facilities
Academic activities are supported by the ITS Central Library, FTK and PPSTK Libraries, ITS Hydrodynamics Lab, PPSTK Computation Lab equipped with modern software and free Internet access, Marine Transportation Lab, CNC Lab, Fluid Machinery and Systems Lab, Marine Machinery Lab, Electrical and Automation Lab, Vibration and Noise Lab, Reliability Lab, Optimization and Structures Lab.
