Mechanical Engineering

Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya (ITS) since the 1993/1994 academic year has been conducting the Master's (Postgraduate) Program in Mechanical Engineering based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education of Indonesia No. 109/DIKTI/Kep/1993. The spirit of enhancing human resources underlies the desire to actively participate in master's education programs, particularly for individuals choosing careers in mechanical engineering, considering the era of industrial growth and advancements in science and technology that increasingly demand mechanical/industrial engineering personnel with qualifications above a bachelor's degree. Supported by 34 academic staff with qualifications: 4 Professors, 19 Doctors, and 11 Masters. The available supporting facilities are as follows: Classrooms, 9 Laboratories and Workshops, a Reading Room with more than 5,000 library materials, 10 international scientific journals, 10 national scientific journals, including Internet connection and other facilities.

Objectives

Education in the Master's Program in Mechanical Engineering aims to produce academic and professional personnel who possess a strong science and technology background with sharp analytical capabilities. Graduates of the Master's education program are expected to possess more scientific capabilities in their field of expertise, when carrying out their profession, for research and development, as well as for further education.

Fields of Interest

The Mechanical Engineering Study Program has 3 fields of expertise that students can choose according to their talents and abilities, including:
  • MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS, Studying how to design machinery equipment originating from courses in Kinematics, Dynamics, Engineering Mechanics, Machine Elements, with applications in courses such as Lifting Machinery, Vibrations, Advanced Engineering Mechanics, Experimental Stress Analysis, and Vibration Mechanics. Related fields include: Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer
  • ENERGY CONVERSION ENGINEERING, Studying how to convert energy from its source into useful energy originating from courses in: Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transfer, with applications in courses such as Fluid Machinery, Lifting Machinery, Solar Energy, Refrigeration Engineering, Aerodynamics, and Internal Combustion Engines. Related fields include: Mechanics, Manufacturing Processes, Industrial Metrology
  • MECHANICAL SYSTEM DESIGN, Mechanics, Kinematics Dynamics, Machine Elements

Academic Activities

The Mechanical Engineering Master's (S-2) Study Program is conducted over 4 semesters (2 years), with a maximum study period limit of 4 years. The minimum credit load is 40 credits (sks), including a thesis according to the curriculum. The academic calendar for Semester I begins in early September, while Semester II begins in early February and ends in June.

Supporting Facilities

Adequate laboratory equipment and laboratory rooms are indispensable, both to support the learning process for students, support academic staff research, and strengthen the consultation role for industry. With 21 laboratories supported by 29 test beds, 51 demo units, 253 measuring devices, and 107 tools, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has great opportunities to develop itself in fulfilling the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi).
