MASTER DEGREE OF MARINE ENGINEERING

STUDY PROGRAM MAGISTER (S2, M.T.) & PROGRAM MAGISTER DOUBLE DEGREE (S2, M.SC)

MARINE ENGINEERING

Marine Engineering is the only strata 2 program in Indonesia that offers further education about the shipping system technology. Master study Program of Marine Engineering specializes curriculum in the development of technology in the scope of marine engineering system that comes from a multi-disciplinary combination especially related to the field of engineering (engineering). Master of Marine Engineering study program has the main competencies in the field of engineering research and engineering systems-systems that are in the building on water (floating structures)/offshore (offshores), ranging from machining systems, propulsion, electricity, piping, navigation, reliability, risk management of oil and gas operating systems, and the safety of systems that support the design.

The courses offered,

  • Master degree in the Marine Engineering course

[Master of Engineering, 2 years]

  • Double Degree Program Master of Marine Engineering

[ Masters of Engineering & Master of Science, 2 years]

1st and 3rd Semester at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS)

2nd Semester at Wismar University (HSW), Germany

4th Semester (Thesis) optional between ITS or HSW

FACILITIES OF LABORATURIUM

Marine Engineering has a wide range of laboratory facilities to support the lecture, research, and support of related industries:

  • Marine Engine Laboratory & Vibration
  • Laboratory of Fluid Machine & system
  • Electrical Laboratory Vessel & Automation
  • Safety & Reliability Laboratory
  • Manufacturing & Design Laboratory
  • Operational Laboratory & Shipping system Maintenance

Research

The Department of Marine Engineering has a strong position in several marine engineering fields. Some of the research areas that are the main focus of the Marine Engineering Department are,

  • Marine Machinery and System [MMS Lab]: Conducting research on vessel machining related to fluid, heat control and transfer, thermodynamics, ship piping systems, marine fuel and lubricant systems, and HVAC.
  • Marine Power Plant [MPP Lab]: Conducting research on vessel machining related to ship systems and engineering, propeller matching engines (EPM), ship fuel products, alternative fuels, emission control, and machining vibrations.
  • Marine Manufacturing and Design [MMD Lab]: Conducting research on the design and engineering of manufacturing and machinery design of vessels, CAD & CAM, ergonoms, materials, and strengths.
  • Marine Electrical and Automation [MEAS Lab]: power electronics, electrical machinery and drilling, instrumentation and control systems, electrical installations, and protection systems.
  • Marine Reliability and Availability, Management, and Safety [RAMS Lab]: Conducting research on vessel machining that relates to ship safety systems, navigation, maritime economics, reliability, and risk management.
  • Marine Operation and Maintenance [MOM Lab]: Conducting research on vessel machining related to maintenance management system, survey, vessel inspection, asset integrity management.

DOCTORAL COURSE (S3) MARINE ENGINEERING

         DOCTORAL DEGREE OF MARINE ENGINEERING

The need of experts in the field of Marine Engineering is based on Indonesia’s position as the largest archipelago in the world with natural resources, and new and renewable energy potential, which makes Indonesia highly regarded in technology, and the maritime-based economy. This condition which gave birth to the government vision to make Indonesia as the world maritime axis. In order to realize this vision, the Government is developing a working program for the development of maritime culture, maritime resource management, infrastructure development, and maritime connectivity, diplomacy, and maritime security defense. The success of this government-working program requires human resources in maritime, especially in the field of shipping systems engineering. Therefore, expert research experts are needed to make the Indonesian vision especially in the field of shipping system engineering.

With the background, the Department of Marine Engineering organizes doctoral courses in the engineering system of Marine Engineering, as one of the only doctoral courses in Indonesia that organizes the education in the field of marine engineering. Doctoral course in marine engineering has the main competencies in the field of research engineering and engineering systems – systems located on water buildings (floating structures)/offshore (offshores), ranging from machining systems, propulsion, electricity, piping, navigation, reliability, risk management of oil and gas operating systems, and the safety of systems that support the design.

With the competence offered by the doctoral program Marine Engineering, the need for research experts in the field of shipping system engineering to support institutions, colleges, and research agencies, especially in the provision of doctoral graduates.
