Chemistry

After more than two decades, Departement of Chemical became a trusted and selected educational institution, with its own excellence, proved by obtaining a “block grant” Technological Skill Development Sector Project Bath III and gained the trust of the Directorate of Vocational High School Education – Department of National Education to improve the widaswara stratification, Vocational High School teachers and education quality guarantors of Indonesia.

The Department of Chemistry which is in the auspices of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) opens the Chemistry Postgraduate Course (S2) starting from 2004/2005.

Powered by 32 qualified lectures: 1 Professor, 12 doctors, and 19 masters. The supporting facilities are available including lecture rooms, 9 laboratories, reading rooms with more than 2000 literature, international scientific journals, national scientific journals, and various other facilities.

Purpose

Masters Program of Chemistry aims to educate and train participants in developing and updating the science of chemistry by mastering and understanding scientific methods. Also, participants will be able to solve problems in science-related research activities, and able to improve intellectuals and professionals.

Field Of Interest

The study programs have 6 areas of interest that can be chosen by students according to their talents and abilities, including:

  • CHEMICAL BIOLOGICAL AND SYNTHETIC MATERIALS, Reviewing the potential of chemicals in plant as a useful ingredient.
  • ORGANIC GEOCHEMISTRY, Examining biomarka compounds such as alkyne, steroid, polyterpenes, and sulfur organic from fossils as molecular parameters for petroleum exploration.
  • CATALYST SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION, Reviewing Provskit, zeolite, metal oxide, and Metalosen, application of catalysts for ion exchanger adsorbent, semiconductor material, and a-olefin polymerization.
  • BIO-ORGANIC AND BIO-CATALYST CHEMISTRY, Reviewing Biogenesis, hopanoids formation, and biotechnology of enzymes as a new ingredient discovery.
  • PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY, PHOTOCHEMISTRY, ELECTROPLATING, Reviewing membranes and polymers.
  • INDUSTRIAL AND DOMESTIC WASTE METHODS, Examines the development of analysis, water plant utilization as water quality regulator, heavy metal analysis, and organic waste.

Academic Activities

Magister Program of Chemistry course is conducted within 4 semesters (2 years), which is divided into two phases. The first stage is two semesters filled with lectures. While the second phase is filled with research activities and theses. Further research results are published at the National/International Scientific seminar or Journal and end with the exam in front of the evaluation team. The maximum time limit of the study period is 4 years. Credit expenses At least 40 credits, including theses according to the curriculum. The academic calendar of the first semester begins in early September, while second semester begins in early February and ends in June.
