Mendukung upaya tersebut, tim mahasiswa <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> menggagas alternatif <em>fuel cell<\/em> menggunakan membran ekstrak bulu bebek yang ramah lingkungan.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ketua tim penelitian Muhammad menyampaikan bahwa upaya penurunan emisi karbon di Indonesia masih belum optimal. Hal itu dibuktikan dengan capaian penggunaan EBT yang masih mencapai 12,7 giga watt (GW) dari total kapasitas listrik sebesar 84,4 GW pada 2023. \u201cHal itu disebabkan salah satunya karena penggunaan energi listrik dalam <em>fuel cell<\/em> yang tidak ramah lingkungan,\u201d ujar pemuda asal Kota Bengkulu itu.<\/p>\n<p>Mahasiswa <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\/fisika\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Departemen Fisika ITS<\/a> itu menambahkan, komponen dalam <em>fuel cell<\/em> konvensional masih menggunakan membran Nafion yang tidak ramah lingkungan. Membran Nafion mengandung material yang sangat stabil secara kimia sehingga tidak mudah terurai. \u201cLimbah Nafion yang tidak dikelola dengan baik dapat mencemari lingkungan,\u201d ungkap pemuda yang akrab disapa Mamat itu.<\/p>\n<p>Turut mengakselerasi ketercapaian target EBT, tim yang bernama Quack Cell itu menggagas inovasi <em>Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells<\/em> (PEMFCs) menggunakan ekstrak keratin dari bulu bebek. Proses ini melibatkan metode hidrolisis asam basah untuk mendapatkan ekstrak keratin yang lebih banyak.<\/p>\n<p>Lebih lanjut, alumnus SMAN 1 Kota Bengkulu itu menerangkan, dari ekstrak bulu bebek tersebut dilakukan pembuatan membran dengan menambahkan <em>Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate<\/em> (SDS) dan gliserol. Selanjutnya, membran harus melalui tahap percetakan dan pemanasan pada suhu 90 derajat celsius selama satu jam. \u201cProses ini untuk menghasilkan membran transmitter energi listrik pada <em>fuel cell<\/em>,\u201d imbuhnya.<\/p>\n<p>Menelaah berbagai penelitian yang telah ada, tim yang melakukan riset di Laboratorium Fisika Material <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\/fisika\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Departemen Fisika ITS<\/a> ini menemukan bahwa penerapan membran dari limbah bulu bebek ini mengandung keratin yang lebih banyak dan mudah ditemukan. Tidak hanya itu, mereka juga melakukan pengujian impedansi untuk mengukur resistensi pada sistem kelistrikan. Dari hasil pengujian tersebut, diketahui bahwa membran yang dihasilkan memiliki konduktivitas yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan keratin kering.<\/p>\n<p>Berkat kerja keras dan kegigihan dari seluruh anggota tim, penelitian ini juga telah berhasil memperoleh medali perak dalam ajang <a href=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/2024\/10\/19\/salut-its-sukses-tembus-posisi-tiga-besar-pimnas-ke-37\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional (Pimnas)<\/a> kategori Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa &#8211; Riset Eksakta (PKM-RE) 2024, beberapa waktu lalu.
