ITS Campus, ITS News \u2014 <\/b>Indonesian Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi gave awards to 15 figures who play an active role, including in the transportation policy development sector. One of these figures is Prof Raja Oloan Saut Gurning ST MSc PhD CMarTech, a professor from the Faculty of Marine Technology (FTK), Institute Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a>, who has been recognized for his contribution in advancing the transportation sector in Indonesia.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This award is given for the support, ideas, and active contribution of the professor who is familiarly called Saut in encouraging the progress of national transportation. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he often provided important input regarding port management and the availability of empty containers to support the distribution of goods. In addition, Saut is also involved in the Transportation Policy Agency, where his role is considered to contribute positively both internally and externally to the government.<\/p>\n

In the evaluation of the Sea Toll program, Saut showed a strong commitment to be involved in the development of this project. He is interested in continuing to contribute to the development of the Sea Toll program for the good of transportation. \u201cThis is done because it is one of the strategic solutions to strengthen inter-island connectivity in Indonesia,\u201d said the ITS Ship Systems Engineering Department<\/a> Professor.<\/p>\n

One of the results of his research related to Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) in the transportation sector resulted in recommendations for the government to set service user tariffs that balance the interests of the state and society. \u201cWe want transportation service tariffs not to be too burdensome for the community, but also still help state revenues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The head of the ITS Ship Systems Engineering Postgraduate Program is also known for innovating floating terminal designs in remote areas such as the Nias Islands, Sangihe Islands, and Maluku. He explained, \u201cWith shallow coastal conditions, this floating terminal is a more efficient solution and can reduce the cost of infrastructure development in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to his contribution to the maritime sector, the Surabaya West Access Channel (SWAC) Commissioner also plays a role in supporting communication between the government and businesses, especially in transportation management during the pandemic. Saut’s position as an academic who is in the middle between the government and business actors makes him a figure who is able to bridge transportation policies with practical solutions in the field.<\/p>\n

Going forward, according to Saut, the biggest challenge is in the public transportation sector<\/a>. One of his visions is the development of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) around the ITS campus area that can connect the campus with airports and ports at affordable prices. \u201cWe need great talents until 2045 in order to create public transportation that is safe, comfortable, and easily accessible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

With this award, Saut is determined to continue working hard and contribute more in research related to sustainable transportation. \u201cThis award is a great motivation for me to continue developing efficient and sustainable transportation in Indonesia,\u201d he said. (ITS PR)<\/strong><\/p>\n
