Alat tidak berstandar <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">food<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">grade <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">memiliki risiko migrasi bahan-bahan kimia atau komponen lain yang dapat mengkontaminasi bahan pangan. \u201cEfeknya makanan dapat menjadi tidak layak untuk dikonsumsi,\u201d jelas Bagas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bagas menambahkan, bahaya tersebut dapat semakin diperparah apabila alat-alat pengolahan dilapisi dengan material yang mudah teroksidasi. Hal ini dapat menimbulkan fenomena korosi yang menyebabkan alat menjadi berkarat. \u201cUjungnya, fenomena karat ini membuat alat menjadi mudah rapuh,\u201d tutur Mahasiswa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/2024\/06\/29\/menilik-peran-teknik-material-dorong-transformasi-teknologi-otomotif\/\">Departemen Material dan Metalurgi ITS<\/a> ini.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Berkaca dari kemungkinan terburuk di atas, Bagas bersama 10 mahasiswa lainnya menciptakan alat pemotong keripik yang memiliki kualitas tinggi dengan lapisan bahan logam alumunium oksida. Penggunaan logam jenis ini bukan tanpa alasan. Sifat besi yang terkandung pada pasir di Lumajang memungkinkan alumunium oksida didapat dalam jumlah yang melimpah. Selain itu, beragam teknologi dan penelitian yang telah dilakukan semakin mempermudah proses ekstraksi logam jenis ini.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bagas kemudian menjelaskan, proses pembuatan alat pemotong keripik diawali dengan mengekstraksi alumunium oksida dari pasir besi menggunakan metode kemagnetan. Metode ini mengangkat sifat kemagnetan dan unsur-unsur lain yang tidak diinginkan. Setelah itu, alumunium oksida dilapiskan pada alat pemotong yang terbuat dari baja melalui proses <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">coating<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dari kedua proses tersebut, tercipta tiga alat pemotong keripik dengan bentuk dan ukuran berbeda. Ketiga produk tersebut kemudian diberikan kepada UMKM keripik di Desa Sidorejo akhir September lalu agar bisa digunakan kedepannya.
