Pertamina bersama Kedaireka Matching Fund ITS turut serta mendorong penelitian ini guna mendukung percepatan penggunaan Kendaraan Listrik Berbasis Baterai (KLBB).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ketua tim penelitian Prof Dr Ir Heru Setyawan MEng menjelaskan, baterai logam udara pada penelitiannya ini merupakan mesin bahan bakar logam yang menggunakan aluminium. Baterai ini dirancang untuk percepatan penggunaaan KLBB guna mendorong Indonesia yang mandiri energi dan teknologi.<\/p>\n<p>Heru menyampaikan bahwa terobosan baru dari baterai ini dapat mencegah dendrit atau kristalisasi logam lithium yang dimulai pada anoda dan dapat menyebar ke seluruh baterai. \u201cDendrit dapat menjadi masalah genting pada baterai,\u201d tegas Heru mengingatkan. Baterai udara ini didesain secara khusus sehingga memiliki permukaan kurus dan tiga dimensi agar ion aluminium dapat secara homogen mengambil aluminium. \u201cAlhasil, baterai menjadi bertahan lebih lama hingga 140 jam,\u201d ungkap dosen dari Laboratorium Elektrokimia ITS ini.<\/p>\n<p>Alumnus ITS ini menerangkan bahwa baterai logam tersebut juga aman untuk lingkungan karena menggunakan elektrolit air dengan tambahan garam Natrium Klorida (NaCl). Larutan garam biasa digunakan sehari-sehari sehingga aman dan tidak terjadi apa-apa pada tubuh manusia. Meski kebutuhan arus listrik untuk motor cukup besar, namun kekayaan sumber daya Indonesia inilah yang mendorong keberanian tim penelitian dari ITS untuk mengadopsi baterai pada motor. Terlebih, harga baterai aluminium lebih murah daripada baterai lithium ion.<\/p>\n<p>Baterai udara ini sebenarnya telah dikembangkan oleh ITS sejak tahun 2013. Namun, sempat berhenti dan baru saja dilakukan kejar tayang penelitian selama kurun waktu setahun ini. Penelitian ini turut didukung pendanaan oleh Pertamina dan Kedaireka Matching Fund ITS, sehingga dapat digarap kembali pengembangannya. Saat ini baterai masih berupa primer sehingga jika baterai habis hanya bisa langsung dibuang. Ke depannya, Heru ingin mengembangkan baterai sekunder, yakni baterai yang dapat dilakukan pengisian ulang. \u201cTak hanya itu, kami juga ingin memperkecil ukuran baterai supaya bisa lebih mudah dimasukkan ke dalam kendaraan,\u201d tutur Heru.<\/p>\n<p>Selaras dengan Heru, Wakil Rektor IV Bidang Riset, Inovasi, Kerja sama, dan Kealumnian ITS Bambang Pramujati ST MScEng PhD menyambut hangat peluncuran baterai ini.
