Mendukung hal tersebut, tim mahasiswa dari <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> meneliti efektivitas material fotokatalis untuk peningkatan produksi gas hidrogen melalui metode <em>water splitting<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ketua tim penelitian, Nabilah Dita Anaqah menjelaskan, hidrogen adalah bahan bakar bebas emisi karbon dengan energi mencapai 2,5 hingga 3 kali lebih besar daripada gasolin. Senyawa ini memiliki kemampuan pembakaran yang luas, sehingga mampu diaplikasikan dalam berbagai penerapan. \u201cPotensi dari senyawa ini dapat diterapkan di pembangkit listrik, <em>hydrogen fuel cell<\/em>, kendaraan hidrogen, hingga pembakaran,\u201d jelasnya.<\/p>\n<p>Bertekad untuk berkontribusi bagi bangsa, mahasiswa <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\/kimia\">Departemen Kimia ITS<\/a> ini berupaya untuk menguji efektivitas material fotokatalis dengan metode water splitting untuk produksi gas hidrogen. \u201cSerupa dengan prinsip kerja metode elektrolisis yang menggunakan energi dari baterai, namun pada reaksi <em>water splitting<\/em> menggunakan energi foton matahari untuk menghasilkan energi,\u201d paparnya.<\/p>\n<p>Nabila melanjutkan, metode ini menggunakan energi matahari untuk memecah molekul air menjadi hidrogen dan oksigen. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa hematit lebih baik dalam menghasilkan pergerakan elektron saat terpapar cahaya. \u201cNamun, diperlukan modifikasi lanjutan guna menjamin kinerja dari material ini,\u201d tambahnya.<\/p>\n<p>Dikerjakan selama lima bulan, strategi modifikasi senyawa material hematit dilakukan dengan menambahkan doping material lain seperti Cerium Oksida (CeO2), nitrogen, dan karbon. \u201cPenambahan ini bertujuan untuk menyempurnakan kekurangan dari tiap penambahan senyawa untuk memastikan kinerja dari sistem hingga mencegah timbulnya senyawa keluaran yang tidak diinginkan,\u201d beber mahasiswi angkatan 2020 ini.<\/p>\n<p>Nabilah mengungkapkan, penggunaan semikonduktor tunggal hematit tidak mampu mengurangi laju karbon hingga menyentuh nilai yang ingin dicapai. Tak hanya itu, pengujian aktivitas fotokatalitik juga dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari perubahan jumlah komposisi doping Nitrogen dan Karbon. \u201cLewat hal ini, efektivitas dari perubahan salah satu jumlah <em>doping<\/em> terhadap jumlah produksi hidrogen dapat tervisualisasikan,\u201d tutur Nabila.<\/p>\n<p>Mahasiswi berkacamata ini berharap, penelitian yang dilakukannya dapat membawa angin segar bagi pengembangan EBT di Indonesia.
