Kuliah tersebut akan lebih fokus pada lapisan dan bebatuan sedimen, namun prinsip-prinsip metode tersebut juga berlaku bagi bebatuan keras lainnya.<\/p>\n<p>Setiap jenis benda mempunyai ketahanan (<em>resistivity<\/em>) terhadap listrik yang berbeda-beda. Hal ini juga berlaku bagi bebatuan dan berbagai lapisan tanah. Jenis materi, dan juga kondisi tanah seperti salinitas, dapat menentukan ketahanan tersebut.<\/p>\n<p>Metode yang dijelaskan dalam penelitian tersebut adalah pengaliran arus DC (<em>Direct Current<\/em>) pada sebuah lapisan tanah, oleh sebuah alat dengan frekuensi sangat rendah atau VLF<em> <\/em>(<em>Very Low Frequency<\/em>). Alat tersebut membaca ketahanan materi yang dialiri listrik dengan <em>Dialectic Frequencies<\/em>, sebuah konstanta pengukur kadar arus DC. Angka <em>resistivity<\/em> tersebut dapat menunukkan materi apa saja yang terdeteksi.<\/p>\n<p>Hal ini sangat berguna, terutama dalam pencarian minyak bumi. Metode ini lebih efektif daripada pengeboran, yang tidak dapat menunjukkan materi apa saja yang terkandung dalam tanah tersebut.<\/p>\n<p>Selain Engine VLF, dalam presentasinya Ben&nbsp; juga menjelaskan engine-engine lainnya. Seperti engine dengan sistem Galvanik. Berbeda dengan VLF yang bisa mendeteksi frekuensi yang kurang dari 1Hz, sistem Galvanik ini bisa mendeteksi gelombang polarisasi atau gelombang magnetik mulai dari 4KHz. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Alat ini cocok untuk mendeteksi&nbsp; materi-materi yang mempunyai resistansi tinggi, seperti air, atau lumpur,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d papar Ben.<\/p>\n<p>Kuliah tersebut tidak hanya dihadiri oleh para mahasiswa dari jurusan Fisika, namun juga dari Teknik Kelautan, Teknik Kimia, Teknik Elektro, Teknik Mesin dan Arsitektur. Beberapa mahasiswa dari Universitas Brawijaya pun turut berpartisipasi dalam kuliah tersebut.<\/p>\n<p>Dari ITS sendiri, Tommy menjelaskan bahwasannya Geofisika khususnya, telah melakukan observasi dan membuat satu engine VLF. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Tahun lalu, Geofifika ITS berhasil membuat dan menerapkan engine VLF di Madura,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d ujarnya bersemangat.<\/p>\n<p>Ini merupakan pertama kalinya Prodi Geofisika mengadakan kerjasama dengan SEG.
