Kedua jenis material ini kerap dipilih karena memiliki kekuatan mekanik, ketahanan terhadap korosi, dan tidak bereaksi terhadap jaringan tubuh. \u201cNamun setelah tulang baru tumbuh maka memerlukan operasi pengangkatan implan yang dapat menghadirkan risiko lain,\u201d jelas mantan Kepala <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\/tmaterial\">Departemen Teknik Material dan Metalurgi ITS<\/a> tahun 2019 &#8211; 2020 ini.<\/p>\n<p>Guna mencegah kemungkinan itu, penggunaan implan yang dapat terdegradasi (<em>biodegradable<\/em>) dan terabsorbsi (<em>bioabsorbable<\/em>) menjadi alternatif lain. Penggunaannya sendiri dapat sekaligus mempercepat proses penyembuhan karena menyuplai zat yang dibutuhkan oleh tubuh. \u201cPaduan berbasis magnesium cocok digunakan karena zat tersebut juga dibutuhkan tulang, namun laju degradasinya terlalu cepat,\u201d ungkapnya.<\/p>\n<p>Dampak dari degradasi tersebut dapat mengurangi sifat mekanik implan dalam menahan beban sebelum tumbuh tulang baru. Bahan ini lebih mudah untuk dimanufaktur serta dipadukan dengan zat-zat lain yang dibutuhkan oleh pertumbuhan tulang. \u201cMineral ataupun zat yang berguna untuk proses penyembuhan lebih mudah digabungkan ke dalam implan ketimbang paduan logam,\u201d paparnya.<\/p>\n<p>Agung melanjutkan, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk memodifikasi sifat kimia, fisik, dan mekanis dari material ini. Penelitian yang dilakukannya menggunakan sintesis nano tembaga sebagai zat aktif yang dicampurkan dengan pelapis organik. \u201cTelah terbukti secara saintifik bahwa pelapis ini dapat membunuh virus SAR COV-2 hingga 99 persen dalam waktu satu jam,\u201d jelasnya.<\/p>\n<p>Penelitian ini sendiri telah masuk ke dalam jurnal Q1 terindeks scopus ini juga telah diaplikasikan di fasilitas-fasilitas umum terutama pada saat masa pandemi COVID-19 lalu. Beberapa di antaranya seperti pada Rumah Sakit Umum Airlangga (RSUA), Medical Center ITS, Satu Atap Co-Working, hingga Bus Listrik G20.<\/p>\n<p>Melihat ke depan, Agung berharap, produk penelitian sivitas akademika ITS dapat disambut oleh stakeholder maupun peneliti lain untuk dikembangkan.
