To overcome this problem, the\u00a0 178th Professor of the <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> Professor Dr Eng Siti\u00a0 Machmudah B.Eng, M.Eng developed supercritical fluid technology as a medicinal raw material\u00a0 by processing herbal plants. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Through her scientific oration, the woman who is familiarly called Mach said that currently the\u00a0 raw materials for medicines in Indonesia are still dominated by imported products. Therefore, she\u00a0 made innovations in supercritical fluid in order to encourage the independence of medicinal raw\u00a0 materials in Indonesia. &#8220;In addition, the use of supercritical fluid technology can also be a solution\u00a0 to environmental problems,&#8221; he explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Furthermore, Mach explained that supercritical fluid is a compound that has exceeded its critical\u00a0 pressure point and critical temperature. This fluid, which has combined liquid and gas properties,\u00a0 functions as a pure solvent or medium for reaction or material separation processes. &#8220;Supercritical\u00a0 fluid can replace organic solvents in the separation process, so that the results obtained do not\u00a0 pollute the environment,&#8221; said the Professor of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/tkimia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Chemical Engineering ITS.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In his process, Mach chose to use supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) and subcritical water as\u00a0 compounds for his research. Both fluids were chosen because they are easy to obtain, non-toxic,\u00a0 and non-flammable. In her research, supercritical CO2 serves to extract raw materials for anticancer drugs from\u00a0 herbal plants, such as amygdalin from loquat fruit seeds. &#8220;Supercritical carbon dioxide can also be\u00a0 used for the micronization process of medicinal raw materials so that the drug delivery ability in\u00a0 the body can increase,&#8221; added the hijab-wearing woman.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition to amygdalin, the lecturer who was born in Gresik said that the use of supercritical\u00a0 CO2 can be used for other medicinal raw materials. Some of them are beta sitosterol, licopene,\u00a0 lutein, beta carotene, astaxanthin, and terpenoid compounds.
