Kampus ITS, ITS News \u2014 <\/b>Pengolahan sampah di Desa Banjarkemuning, Kabupaten Sidoarjo, belum menerapkan prinsip pengolahan yang berkelanjutan. Menindaklanjuti hal tersebut<\/span>, tim <\/span>Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) Tematik Infrastruktur<\/span><\/a> Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/span><\/a> latih masyarakat untuk mengolah sampah organik rumah tangga menjadi ekoenzim.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Anggota KKN Tematik Infrastruktur, Yusron Muchajjaliin mengungkapkan bahwa masyarakat <\/span>Desa Banjarkemuning<\/span><\/a> masih terbiasa untuk menumpuk dan membakar sampah di tengah pemukiman. Padahal, hal tersebut dapat mengakibatkan terlepasnya zat berbahaya dari sampah ke\u00a0 lingkungan. \u201cProses tersebut dapat memicu kerusakan lingkungan, pencemaran udara, hingga akhirnya merusak kesehatan warga,\u201d terangnya.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Melihat sampah rumah tangga yang didominasi oleh sampah sisa dapur dan makanan, Yusron dan tim pun menginisiasi sistem pengolahan sampah organik yang tersistem. Langkah pertama yang ia dan tim lakukan adalah meninjau dan mengidentifikasi kondisi tempat pembuangan sampah (TPS) yang ada. \u201cDilihat jumlah timbunan hingga proses pengolahan yang sudah diterapkan TPS agar program kami bisa mengoptimalkan sistem yang sudah ada,\u201d imbuhnya. <\/span><\/p>\n

Dosen Pembimbing Lapangan KKN Tematik ini, Deqi Rizkivia Radita ST MS menambahkan bahwa langkah awal dalam sistem pengolahan sampah adalah pemilahan. Oleh karena itu, timnya juga melakukan sosialisasi ke masyarakat mengenai cara pemilahan sampah sesuai sifat dan jenisnya. Setelah dipilah, tim ini melatih masyarakat untuk mengolah sampah organik menjadi ekoenzim yang dapat menjadi pestisida alami, pupuk, hingga filter air.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Selain memiliki beragam manfaat, lanjut Deqi, pengolahan sampah menjadi ekoenzim dipilih karena masyarakat dapat mengimplementasikannya di rumah masing-masing. Pengolahan ini dilakukan dengan menyampurkan potongan kulit buah dengan air bersih dan gula merah. \u201cDapat digunakan pula molase atau limbah tebu sebagai pengganti gula merah,\u201d jelas dosen Teknik Lingkungan tersebut. <\/span><\/p>\n

Selanjutnya, warga hanya perlu memasukkan campuran tersebut ke dalam wadah cat yang telah dicuci bersih untuk proses fermentasi. Setelah didiamkan selama kurang lebih tiga bulan, cairan tersebut bahkan aman dimanfaatkan sebagai cairan pembersih serbaguna, mulai dari sabun cuci piring hingga cairan pembersih lantai. \u201cSementara, kulit buah dan sayur yang masih tersisa dapat digunakan sebagai pupuk kompos,\u201d terangnya.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Menggandeng Kementerian Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat (PUPR), kegiatan ini berhasil memberikan pemahaman kepada masyarakat mengenai cara membedakan sampah organik dan anorganik. Bukan hanya itu, masyarakat menjadi paham dan dapat mengolah sendiri sampah rumah tangga yang mereka miliki.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alumnus Teknik Lingkungan ITS tersebut berharap agar kegiatan ini dapat mengatasi permasalahan sampah di sana. Deqi pun berharap masyarakat dapat mengurangi kebiasaan buruk menumpuk dan membakar sampah tersebut. \u201cKami juga berharap supaya kegiatan ini dapat meningkatkan pemberdayaan masyarakat untuk mengatasi permasalahan lingkungannya,\u201d pungkasnya menyudahi. <\/span>(*)<\/b><\/p>\n
