Tak biasanya, mahasiswa yang mengikuti program <em>free speaking English class<\/em> ini malah memeragakan dan menjelaskan masalah pembuatan roti <em>sandwich<\/em>. Mereka mencoba menerangkan bagaimana cara membuat <em>sandwich<\/em> dengan bahasa Inggris.<br \/>&nbsp;<br \/>Luh Mas Ariyanti SE MPd, staf pengajar di UPT Pusat Bahasa dan Budaya ITS menjelaskan, bila belajar bahasa perlu praktik secara langsung. Seperti dengan menjelaskan bagaimana membuat <em>sandwich<\/em> dengan bahasa asing. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Bahasa itu perlu dipraktikkan, karena pemahaman sebenarnya muncul ketika praktik,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d ungkapnya.<\/p>\n<p>Selain untuk melatih berbicara, Luh Mas Ariyanti menjelaskan bila acara demo pembuatan <em>sandwich<\/em> ini juga bertujuan untuk mengenalkan kepada mahasiswa mengenai budaya internasional. <\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Tidak hanya bahasa yang didapatkan pada acara ini, tapi juga wawasan baru tentang budaya luar,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d jelas perempuan asal Bali ini yang menjelaskan bila <em>sandwich<\/em> merupakan kebiasaan orang barat untuk sarapan pagi.<\/p>\n<p><em>Free speaking class<\/em> sendiri sebenarnya adalah suatu kelas yang dikhususkan untuk berlatih berbicara bahasa Inggris. Semua mahasiswa yang kursus di UPT ini bisa mengikuti kelas tersebut. Biasanya pada kelas ini diisi dengan diskusi, tanya jawab, drama dan demo seperti ini. <\/p>\n<p>Salah seorang mahasiswa<em> free speaking class<\/em>, Mida mengungkapkan bahwa dengan acara seperti ini membuat suasananya lebih akrab dan dapat berbicara bahasa Inggris tanpa malu walaupun salah. \u00e2\u20ac\u009dSaya merasa nyaman dengan suasana seperti ini, dan jadinya tidak malu kalau salah karena semuanya akrab,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d ungkap mahasiswa keperawatan Universitas Airlangga ini.<\/p>\n<p>Acara <em>free speaking class<\/em> sendiri diagendakan&nbsp; tiga kali selama satu minggu, yaitu pada hari Selasa pukul 13.00, Rabu pukul 14.30 dan Jumat pukul 18.00. Ke depannya, dalam kelas ini para peserta juga akan diajak berdiskusi tentang musik, film dan tarian mancanegara.
