Menjawab permasalahan tersebut, Guru Besar (Gubes) <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\">Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> ke-169 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/2021\/03\/31\/tim-peneliti-its-bantu-mitigasi-emisi-karbondioksida-ekuivalen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prof Sungging Pintowantoro ST MT PhD Eng<\/a> menghadirkan solusi melalui proses reduksi langsung nikel dan pemanfaatan limbah padatan nikel.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Lewat orasi ilmiahnya yang bertajuk Penguasaan Pengolahan Bijih Nikel dan Mineral Logam Lainnya untuk Mendukung Produksi Logam Dalam Negeri yang Berkelanjutan, Sungging menyampaikan keprihatinannya terhadap pengolahan bijih nikel saat ini. \u201cNikel merupakan logam mineral yang pemanfaatannya sangat menjanjikan, tetapi emisi yang dihasilkan dapat merusak lingkungan,\u201d ungkap Sungging.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Dalam penelitiannya, ia mengusung proses reduksi langsung sebagai upaya alternatif dalam memproduksi bijih nikel. Lebih rinci, proses ini dipilih guna menurunkan penggunaan energi pada pengolahan bijih yang nantinya berimbas pada emisi yang akan dihasilkan. \u201cMetode ini menghasilkan temperatur operasi yang lebih rendah, sehingga energi yang digunakan lebih efisien,\u201d jelas profesor dari <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\/tmaterial\">Departemen Teknik Material dan Metalurgi (DTMM) ITS<\/a> itu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Tak hanya lebih efisien, menurut Sungging, produk hasil reduksi langsung memiliki kandungan nikel yang lebih tinggi akibat adanya penggunaan zat aditif. Kedua komponen yang bersifat ramah lingkungan ini nantinya dapat diolah kembali untuk menghasilkan gas amonia baru. \u201cAmat cocok untuk digunakan secara berkelanjutan,\u201d beber profesor yang juga Kepala Laboratorium Pengolahan Mineral dan Material <a href=\"http:\/\/its.ac.id\/tmaterial\">DTMM ITS<\/a> ini.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Membahas proses produksi bijih nikel lebih dalam, Sungging menerangkan bahwa produksi mineral logam menghasilkan limbah padatan dengan jumlah yang terbilang banyak, tak terkecuali nikel. Maka dari itu, sebuah ide cemerlang untuk memanfaatkan limbah padatan nikel guna menangkap CO2 menjadi inovasi cerdas lain yang Sungging tawarkan lewat penelitiannya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Lebih lanjut, Sungging membeberkan, limbah padatan nikel mengandung beberapa senyawa nonkarbonat seperti magnesium, kalsium, dan besi. Langkah ini telah Sungging buktikan secara teoritis layak untuk diterapkan dan dikembangkan. Akan tetapi, inovasi ini tidak akan bisa terealisasi secara massal apabila tidak disertai dengan pemanfaatan teknologi pengolahan mineral yang baik.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Lelaki yang kini berusia 55 tahun tersebut menggarisbawahi bahwa langkah-langkah penyuluhan untuk mencapai penguasaan teknologi harus segera dilakukan. Hal ini dilatarbelakangi oleh sumber daya mineral logam yang tidak dapat diperbaharui. \u201cPemerintah harus segera bergerak untuk menciptakan kebijakan yang dapat membantu pemahaman masyarakat mengenai teknologi,\u201d tegasnya mengingatkan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Anggota Senat Akademik ITS ini menekankan bahwa industri dan akademisi memegang peran yang sangat penting dalam membantu penguasaan teknologi.
