Sebelumnya Mr. Blakeley mengunjungi ITS untuk meresmikan cabang organisasi profesi maritim terbesar dunia di Indonesia. Dalam beberapa kali kesempatannya berkunjung ke ITS, ia selalu memberiakan kuliah singkat yang dihadiri oleh ratusan akademisi.
 
Rencananya, acara ini akan digelar di gedung rektorat lantai 2 mulai pukul 13.00. Prof Soegiono mendapatkan penghargaan atas jasa-jasanya bagi perkembangan RINA dan dunia kemaritiman di Indonesia. Ia menjadi orang Indonesia pertama yang mendapatkan setifikasi tersebut. Sebelumnya, ia juga menjadi orang Indonesia pertama yang mencapai status keanggotaan tertinggi RINA sebagai fellow (FRINA). Pada kesempatan ini pula, Prof IKA Pria Utama FRINA dicalonkan kembali menjadi International council member RINA untuk periode tahun 2009 sampai 2012.<\/p>\n

Kunjungan Mr Trevor Blakeley kali ini sangat spesial karena secara khusus akan membahas persoalan akreditasi internasional ketiga jurusan di Fakultas. Teknologi Kelautan (FTK) ITS, dimana diharapkan akan diperoleh status full-accredited. Karena sebelumnya FTK ITS hanya mendapatkan partly accredited (1991-1996). Selain itu, juga akan dibahas kemungkinan pemberian award dari RINA yang bekerja sama dengan organisasi atau lembaga internasional seperti the Lloyd Register of Shipppings (LR) atau the American Bureau of Shippings (ABS). <\/p>\n

Dengan demikian, secara khusus FTK ITS sudah diakui sebagai anggota dari rumpun universitas kemaritiman dunia dan menjadi satu-satunya anggota dari Indonesia. Sampai hari ini jumlah anggota RINA di Indonesia lebih dari 150 orang tersebar di Surabaya, Jakarta, Makassar dan Batam.(bah)
