Beranjak dari hal tersebut, dosen Departemen Teknik Lingkungan Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) membuat penelitian dengan memanfaatkan kembali <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spent Bleaching Earth<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (SBE) sebagai katalis dalam proses dekolorisasi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ervin Nurhayati ST MT PhD menyampaikan, SBE merupakan limbah padat berupa tanah campuran yang mengandung minyak dan didapatkan dari proses penyulingan minyak kelapa mentah. Sebelum menjadi SBE, tanah tersebut disebut dengan <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bleaching Earth <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(BE) yang digunakan untuk menyerap kotoran, zat, dan bahan yang tidak diinginkan dalam minyak kelapa mentah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Menurut Peraturan Pemerintah (PP) No.22 Tahun 2021, SBE tidak lagi termasuk kedalam limbah berbahaya jika kandungan minyak di dalamnya kurang dari 3 persen. Perempuan yang akrab disapa Ervin ini menuturkan, meskipun bukan limbah berbahaya cukup berisiko jika dibuang secara langsung. \u201cUntuk meminimalisir pencemaran lingkungan, kami mencoba untuk menggunakan kembali SBE,\u201d ujarnya.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70675\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70675\" style=\"width: 1348px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-70675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/Screenshot-2022-07-24-174043-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1348\" height=\"595\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70675\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ervin Nurhayati ST MT PhD yang memaparkan ilustrasi penggabungan SBE dengan Zinc Oksida dalam simposium yang diselenggarakan Dalian University of Technology (DUT) dan ITS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ervin menjelaskan bahwa dalam penelitian ini, SBE akan dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan adsorben untuk polutan. Lebih lanjut, agar SBE dapat digunakan sebagai adsorben harus melalui beberapa tahapan seperti ekstraksi minyak dari SBE, memurnikan SBE, dan mencampur dengan Zinc Oksida. \u201cKombinasi dari SBE dengan Zinc Oksida membuat pori-pori campuran menjadi lebih besar sehingga lebih efektif,\u201d terangnya.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Setelah dilakukan penggabungan SBE dengan Zinc Oksida, pengujian menggunakan pada sampel Rhodamine B. Hasil penelitian tersebut menunjukkan dengan dosis katalis sebanyak 0,5 g\/L, mampu men-dekolorisasi sampel Rhodamine B hingga 97,43%. Selain itu, dengan katalis tersebut juga mampu mengembalikan pH sampel menjadi 7 atau sesuai dengan nilai pH normal air.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ervin mengaku, dalam penelitian tersebut perlu dilakukan banyak riset karena tiap SBE memiliki kandungan mineral yang berbeda-beda.
