Membahas hal ini, Departemen Teknik Kelautan Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) membahas salah satu upaya pengurangan emisi gas karbon lewat\u00a0 Carbon Capturing Utilization Storage (CCUS).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reservoir Engineer Medco E&amp;P Indonesia <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Richard Arnold ST MSc mengungkapkan, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">keberadaan gas karbon dioksida menjadi semakin meningkat seiring berkembangnya teknologi yang ditandai oleh revolusi industri. Keberadaan salah satu<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">jenis <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">greenhouse gas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> dengan rumus kimia CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> dengan jumlah berlebih ini memerangkap panas matahari yang seharusnya dipantulkan ke luar angkasa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Penggunaan minyak dan gas bumi serta batu bara nyatanya masih menjadi pilihan dalam pemenuhan kebutuhan di sektor energi. Di sisi lain, pembakaran sumber energi kimia ini akan menghasilkan gas buang berupa CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> yang berimplikasi terhadap kenaikan suhu global dan perubahan iklim. \u201cUntuk itu diperlukan upaya untuk menjembatani kebutuhan energi namun mengurangi emisi gas buangnya,\u201d tutur alumnus Institut Teknologi Bandung ini.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beberapa diantaranya meliputi pengurangan pemanfaatan sumber energi fosil, elektrifikasi transportasi, fuel switching and efficiency gains hingga carbon removal. Usaha-usaha ini turut berkaitan dengan target yang telah disetujui lewat perjanjian paris. \u201cBerbagai negara sepakat untuk menjaga temperatur global berada dibawah angka 1,5 derajat celcius,\u201d pungkas pria yang memperoleh gelar magister sains di National University of Singapore ini.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70219\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70219\" style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-70219\" src=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/mas-richard-arnold.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70219\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Skema dari metode Carbon Capture Utilization Storage yang dapat mengurangi emisi gas karbon yang turut menjadi dalang dari kenaikan suhu bumi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Menarik lebih jauh mengenai salah satu bentuk carbon removal yakni CCUS, Richard melanjutkan, metode sendiri ini diawali dengan penangkapan CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> dari pembangkit listrik, fasilitas industri, maupun CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> yang terdapat di udara. Setelah melewati proses separasi, karbon dioksida yang diperoleh kemudian ditransportasi agar dapat diolah menjadi bentuk produk lain seperti material bangunan, senyawa kimia, plastik, dan mineralisasi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pria berkacamata ini melanjutkan, selain digunakan kembali, karbon dioksida yang ditangkap dapat disimpan ke beberapa penyimpanan seperti formasi geological bawah tanah, onshore, maupun offshore. Gas ini pertama-tama harus berada kondisi <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">supercritical <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ataupun liquid untuk mengoptimalkan fase transportasi dan penyimpanannya. Tak hanya itu, kondisi batuan yang menjadi tempat penyimpanan pun harus memenuhi beberapa\u00a0 kriteria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Diantaranya seperti harus memiliki lapisan caprock untuk memastikan gas CO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> tidak lepas ke permukaan. Kemudian, lapisan batuan juga harus memiliki rongga (porous) dan dapat dialiri oleh fluida yang akan diinjeksi. Selain itu, penyimpanan ini juga membutuhkan lapisan air seperti aquifer yang akan membantu proses penyimpanan gas ini. Terakhir, proses penyimpanan akan membutuhkan waktu agar gas dapat terendapkan dan termineralisasi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pada saat yang bersamaan, penyimpanan karbon dioksida dapat juga dimanfaatkan untuk mengoptimalkan produksi minyak dan gas bumi pada sumur produksi yang dikenal dengan\u00a0 sebutan Enhanced Oil Recovery. Secara singkat, gas CO2 yang diinjeksi akan mendorong minyak dan gas bumi yang tertangkap di dalamnya dan membuat cadangan tersebut dapat dioptimalkan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Untuk menjaga agar penyimpanan karbon dioksida tidak mengalami gangguan, berbagai pengawasan dan monitoring dilakukan untuk mencegah hal tersebut. Hal ini sendiri dilakukan dari berbagai skala, beberapa diantaranya mulai dari penggunaan satelit, pengukuran gelombang seismik di permukaan, hingga uji sampel yang dilakukan di laboratorium.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tak hanya itu, penyimpanan sendiri turut melibatkan berbagai pertimbangan yang akan memengaruhi prosesnya.
