Namun, limbah baterai tersebut berbahaya bagi lingkungan dan kesehatan. Guna menggantikan baterai kering pada umumnya, lima mahasiswa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\">Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> menggagas baterai ramah lingkungan berbahan dasar mikroalga dan grafena.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Ersyad Dhillullah selaku ketua tim mengatakan, baterai sel kering yang banyak dijumpai di pasaran memiliki bahan dasar seng-karbon (zinc-carbon). BMG menggunakan kombinasi mikroalga (Chlorella Sp.) sebagai elektrolit dan grafena sebagai katoda. \u201cDengan digunakannya elektrolit ramah lingkungan, BMG mampu mengurangi jumlah limbah kimia berbahaya,\u201d papar Ersyad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">BMG menghasilkan listrik ketika anoda mengalami reaksi oksidasi dan katoda grafena mengalami reaksi reduksi. Menurut Ersyad, grafena digunakan karena dapat secara efektif meningkatkan pengangkutan elektron dan ion. Dengan demikian, penggunaan grafena dapat meningkatkan sifat kelistrikan baterai, memberikan stabilitas kimia yang lebih baik, serta konduktivitas listrik dan kapasitas energi yang lebih tinggi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Ersyad dan tim meyakini, inovasi yang mereka gagas ini tidak termasuk mahal. Meskipun harus merogoh kocek lebih di awal, penerapan teknologi mereka mampu memberikan daya tahan lebih kuat dan tahan lama sehingga lebih ekonomis. \u201cDari hasil pengujian kinerja, BMG menunjukkan 26,67 persen lebih kuat dan memiliki kemampuan untuk bertahan 40 persen lebih lama dari baterai zinc-carbon lain yang ada,\u201d beber mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Kimia ini.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Bersama Ersyad, tim ini beranggotakan tiga mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Kimia lainnya yaitu Eigiant Andarta Atmadja, Gustiana Merdikaningrum, Muhammad Rafli Revansyah, serta mahasiswa Departemen Desain Komunikasi Visual (DKV) Mochammad Arsy Algifany Fudam.
