Berangkat dari persoalan tersebut, mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) menggagas inovasi pemanfaatan limbah rumen cair sebagai alternatif energi listrik bagi masyarakat.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Zel Andesra, mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Kimia Industri ITS ini, menjelaskan bahwa pemanfaatan limbah rumen di Indonesia sekarang masih sebatas sebagai bioaktivator atau pakan ternak yang diolah kembali. \u201cPadahal menurut penelitian kami, ternyata limbah rumen cair tersebut dapat menjadi energi listrik alternatif,\u201d tutur Zel, sapaan akrabnya.<\/p>\n<p>Memanfaatkan kandungan mikroba yang melimpah pada limbah rumen, Zel menganalisis seberapa efektif mikroba tersebut dapat menghasilkan listrik. Dengan mengetahui kandungan pH serta COD (<em>chemical oxygen demand<\/em>, red) pada limbah rumen, dapat ditentukan bahwa limbah tersebut dapat memunculkan energi listrik.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66499\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66499\" style=\"width: 635px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66499\" src=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Zel4-1-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"635\" height=\"519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Zel4-1-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Zel4-1-355x289.jpg 355w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Zel4-1.jpg 395w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66499\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Zel saat melakukan pengujian efektivitas mikroba limbah rumen dalam menghasilkan energi listrik<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jika dibandingkan dengan energi batu bara yang saat ini masih menjadi andalan pembangkit listrik, pemanfaatan limbah rumen ini cukup dapat membantu pasokan energi listrik di peternakan suatu kawasan. \u201cDengan kerja sama para peternak, bukan mustahil kebutuhan listrik sehari-hari mereka bisa terpenuhi hanya dengan inovasi ini,\u201d ungkap mahasiswa asal Sumatera Barat ini dengan optimis.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Temuannya ini berhasil mengantarkan Zel meraih juara kedua dalam Kompetisi Paper Skullers Insight ITB 2022.
