Biodegradasi merupakan metode pemulihan pencemaran dengan memanfaaatkan mikroorganisme tertentu dengan menguraikan senyawa kimia pencemar. Biodegradasi ini juga mampu menjadi solusi ramah lingkungan pada lingkungan tercemar.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Penelitian ini dilakukan oleh sivitas akademika Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) yang terdiri dari Harmin Sulistyaning Titah ST MT PhD (dosen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/id\/kuliah-di-its\/fakultas-dan-departemen\/fakultas-teknik-sipil-perencanaan-dan-kebumian\/teknik-lingkungan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Departemen Teknik Lingkungan<\/a>), Herman Pratikno ST MT PhD (dosen Departemen Teknik Kelautan), Ipung Fitri Purwanti ST MT PhD (dosen Departemen Teknik Lingkungan), dan Widhowati Kesoema Wardhani ST (mahasiswa PMDSU Departemen Teknik Lingkungan).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Dalam penelitian tersebut, tim peneliti ini memanfaatkan biodegradasi untuk mengatasi masalah pencemaran minyak bumi yang terjadi di laut. Pada sampel air laut tercemar yang diambil dari perairan Madura didapatkan nilai TPH sebesar 2.600-3.000 mg\/L, sementara nilai TPH untuk lingkungan yang baik adalah 1.000 mg\/L atau di bawah 1 persen. \u201cBerarti air laut di kawasan tersebut sudah sangat tercemar,\u201d ungkapnya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Biodegradasi pada penelitian ini memanfaatkan bakteri <em>Bacillus subtilis <\/em>dan <em>Pseudomonas putida<\/em>. Harmin menjelaskan bahwa penelitiannya menggunakan metode bertahap, di mana metode ini merupakan metode kombinasi penambahan dari dua bakteri. Sebagai contoh, kombinasi tersebut menggunakan bakteri <em>Pseudomonas putida<\/em> untuk bekerja menguraikan sampel terlebih dahulu, kemudian ditambahkan dengan bakteri <em>Bacillus subtilis<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Tujuan menggunakan metode ini ialah untuk mengetahui tingkat efektivitas bakteri dalam menguraikan senyawa kimia polutan dengan kadar yang tinggi. Terbukti dalam pengujian laboratorium selama 35 hari, sampel polutan sudah terurai sebanyak 66 persen. \u201cKombinasi tersebut memiliki efektivitas lebih tinggi dalam mengurai bakteri,\u201d tuturnya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Selain itu, Harmin juga menyampaikan bahwa selain faktor jenis bakteri yang efektif dimanfaatkan untuk menguraikan polutan, juga terdapat tambahan nutrisi sebagai makanan tambahan untuk bakteri. Nutrisi tersebut didapatkan dari pupuk yang memiliki kandungan unsur kimia nitrogen, fosfor, dan kalium. Namun, kekurangan dalam penelitian ini terdapat pada durasi waktu biodegradasi yang sangat lama. \u201cApabila ingin benar-benar bebas polutan, dibutuhkan waktu tiga bulan,\u201d tambahnya<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Harmin berharap, dalam waktu dekat penelitian ini dapat diterapkan dalam skala nyata bukan hanya dalam skala laboratorium.
