Kampus ITS, ITS News – <\/strong>Sampah plastik di perairan Indonesia menjadi permasalahan serius dan diperlukan terobosan baru untuk mengatasi permasalahan ini. Melihat hal tersebut, tim mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)<\/a> mengusulkan inovasi robot otomotis yang menggabungkan teknologi superfluid dan internet of things (IoT) bertajuk Integrated Machinery Plastic Waste Cleanser (IMAN) sebagai metode baru memerangi sampah plastik di lautan.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK)<\/a> mencatat sepanjang 2020 terdapat sekitar setengah juta ton sampah plastik berada di laut Indonesia, sehingga menjadikan Indonesia sebagai kontributor sampah plastik ke laut terbesar kedua di dunia setelah Tiongkok. \u201cIMAN diharapkan mampu menjawab permasalahan tersebut,\u201d tutur Farhan Fadlurrahman Sutrisno, ketua tim.<\/p>\n

Farhan menambahkan bahwa IMAN merupakan robot pencari dan penghancur sampah plastik di lautan yang dirancang terintegrasi oleh IoT. \u201cIMAN dapat memudahkan dekomposisi sampah plastik tanpa harus dikumpulkan dan dipindahkan ke suatu tempat,\u201d terang mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Mesin<\/a> ini.<\/p>\n

Lebih lanjut, Farhan menjelaskan bahwa IMAN dilengkapi dengan camera processing yang berguna untuk mencari dan mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis sampah saat beroperasi di lautan. Ketika benda asing yang terdeteksi sebagai sampah plastik, mulut robot akan terbuka secara otomatis dan sampah akan dibawa masuk oleh conveyor robot untuk diproses lebih lanjut. \u201cPada conveyor terdapat penyaring, sehingga air tidak turut serta masuk ke dalam robot,\u201d jelas Farhan.<\/p>\n

Sampah kemudian akan masuk ke dalam tabung khusus dan didekomposisi memanfaatkan fluida superkritis hidrogen oksida (H2O). Proses dekomposisi dilakukan di suhu 373 derajat celcius dan tekanan 22 Mega Pascal, sehingga sampah plastik akan langsung terdekomposisi saat dialiri fluida superkritis H2O. \u201cBeberapa sampah plastik akan meninggalkan residu, namun dapat digunakan kembali sebagai plastik daur ulang,\u201d ungkap mahasiswa angkatan 2020 ini.<\/p>\n

Robot yang dirancang dengan dimensi 6,5 x 2,5 x 3,8 meter ini juga memanfaatkan panel surya sebagai suplai tenaga listrik. Dipaparkan oleh Farhan bahwa IMAN sendiri mampu bertahan hingga delapan jam operasional tergantung dengan intensitas pemrosesan sampah plastik yang dilakukan. \u201cUntuk memproses satu kilogram sampah dibutuhkan waktu tiga hingga enam menit dengan efektivitas mencapai 95,6 persen,\u201d tambah pemuda kelahiran Depok 2002 ini.<\/p>\n

Dengan bimbingan dosen Departemen Teknik Mesin ITS Prof Dr Eng Ir Prabowo MEng, Farhan membuat inovasi ini bersama keempat rekannya yaitu Zara Ismi Nuraini (Departemen Teknik Mesin), Epindonta Ginting (Departemen Teknik Mesin), Yohanes Maruli Arga Septianus (Departemen Teknik Material), dan Muhammad Zainal Afandi Loleh (Departemen Teknik Kimia). Berkat inovasi tersebut, tim ini telah berhasil menyabet medali emas pada kategori Waste Treatment dalam kompetisi Indonesia International Applied Science Project Olympiad (I2ASPO) yang diselenggarakan oleh Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA), beberapa waktu lalu.<\/p>\n

Terakhir, Farhan berharap bahwa inovasi timnya ini dapat direalisasikan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan sampah di lautan Indonesia. \u201cKami berharap bahwa IMAN tidak hanya menjadi solusi bagi bangsa ini, namun juga mampu menjawab permasalahan sampah plastik di tingkat dunia,\u201d tandasnya.
