Berupaya menjaga produktivitas bawangnya, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) melalui Kuliah Kerja Nyata Pengabdian Masyarakat (KKN Abmas) ciptakan alat pengendali hama berbasis spektrum cahaya menggunakan lampu <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Light Emitting Diode<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (LED). Alat ini menjadi yang ramah lingkungan karena memanfaatkan tenaga surya dan cenderung lebih terjangkau daripada pestisida.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mewakili Tim KKN Abmas ITS, Dr Suyatno SSi MSi menyebutkan umumnya petani menggunakan pestisida dan lampu pijar untuk membasmi hama. Namun pendekatan tersebut masih tergolong kurang efektif dan efisien. Suyatno dan tim mengusulkan solusi alat pengendali hama yang memanfaatkan teknologi yang lebih modern yakni spektrum cahaya dengan indikasi warna tertentu. Lampu LED tersebut dipasang pada bagian tengah dan pinggir lahan pertanian dengan jarak antar lampu tiga meter. Lampu berspektrum warna merah diletakkan pada bagian tengah agar hama menjauhi lahan tanaman. Sedangkan di pinggir lahan dipasang lampu berspektrum warna ungu untuk menarik hama mendekati cairan penjebak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Suyatno berujar bahwa alat pengendali hama dengan LED ini lebih praktis karena dilengkapi dengan alat kontrol yang bekerja secara otomatis. Dengan total tegangan 12 volt dan arus setengah ampere, alat pengendali hama ini memiliki risiko sengatan listrik yang sangat rendah. Bahkan ketika musim hujan alat pengendali hama ini tetap dapat bekerja optimal karena kotak penyimpan pengontrolnya tahan air. Secara harga pun alat ini unggul karena lebih murah dari pestisida dan lampu pijar dari listrik PLN. \u201cPestisida umumnya dijual seharga Rp 300.000 per botol ukuran kecil. Alat ini juga menekan biaya listrik karena murni menggunakan energi cahaya matahari,\u201d tegasnya.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lebih lanjut, alumni ITS ini memaparkan meskipun relatif lebih murah, alat ini terbukti mampu mengendalikan hama sehingga tanaman pertanian dapat tumbuh dengan baik. Hal ini terlihat dari banyaknya hama yang didapat ketika masa uji coba. Saking banyaknya, bak penjebak harus diganti setiap dua hari. Melihat keberhasilan ini, Suyatno berambisi mengembangkan kegunaan alatnya dalam bidang lain.
