Membantu mengatasi kondisi tersebut, mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) menginisasi daur ulang limbah kertas HVS menjadi asam oksalat yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk kebutuhan industri.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Pengelolaan limbah kertas HVS yang lumrah dilakukan dengan pembakaran, dan tentu saja berdampak buruk bagi lingkungan. Padahal limbah kertas HVS dapat didaur ulang menjadi produk bernilai tinggi. \u201cKertas HVS ini mengandung kadar selulosa di atas 90 persen, sehingga dapat diolah menjadi asam oksalat,\u201d ungkap Linaniyyatul Masruroh, ketua tim.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Bersama empat rekannya, yakni Adik Roni Setiawan, Asalina Putri Agung Shaliha, M Yosi Kurniawan, dan Seren Fegrita Septia Karya, ia mengolah limbah kertas HVS menjadi kristal asam oksalat. \u201cProduk ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk <em>metal cleaning<\/em>, pencampuran bahan pewarna, dan masih banyak lagi,\u201d tutur mahasiswi yang akrab disapa Lina ini.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Sebelum diolah, jelas Lina, kertas HVS akan melalui tahap <em>pre-treatment<\/em> berupa <em>removing ink<\/em> terlebih dahulu. \u201cTidak hanya menghilangkan tinta, pada tahap ini juga bertujuan untuk meningatkan kadar selulosa yang meningkatkan produksi asam oksalat sebesar 20 persen,\u201d jelas mahasiswa angkatan 2017 ini.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60322\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60322\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60322 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.09-PM-1024x706.jpeg\" alt=\"Produk asam oksalat dari limbah kertas HVS, karya mahasiswa ITS, yang siap digunakan\" width=\"1024\" height=\"706\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.09-PM-1024x706.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.09-PM-300x207.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.09-PM-768x529.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.09-PM-355x245.jpeg 355w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.09-PM.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60322\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Produk asam oksalat dari limbah kertas HVS, karya mahasiswa ITS, yang siap digunakan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Pada tahap <em>pre-treatment<\/em>, kertas HVS ditimbang dan dicampur dengan senyawa kalium permanganat (KMnO4) 50 persen yang berfungsi untuk memisahkan lignin dari selulosa. Selanjutnya, kertas dicelupkan dalam senyawa hidrogen peroksida (H2O2) 65 persen untuk menghilangkan tinta lalu dibasuh kembali menggunakan akuades.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Lebih lanjut, kertas HVS dihidrolisis menggunakan senyawa alkali kuat yaitu natrium hidroksida (NaOH) 40 persen dan dipanaskan pada suhu 65\u00b0C selama 80 menit. \u201cPada suhu dan durasi ini asam oksalat yang dihasilkan lebih banyak dan optimal,\u201d tambah gadis asal Pamekasan, Madura ini.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Setelah tahap pemanasan, lanjut Lina, larutan didinginkan dan disaring. Sisa endapan kemudian dicuci dengan akuades hangat (kisaran suhu 50-60\u00b0C). Sisa endapan hasil hidrolisis ini lalu ditambahkan kalium klorida (CaCl2) 10 persen hingga terbentuk endapan putih kalsium oksalat.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60321\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60321\" style=\"width: 758px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60321 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.41-PM.jpeg\" alt=\"Tahap pemrosesan kertas HVS menjadi kristal asam oksalat, gagasan tim mahasiswa ITS\" width=\"758\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.41-PM.jpeg 758w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.41-PM-178x300.jpeg 178w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.41-PM-606x1024.jpeg 606w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-07-22-at-4.22.41-PM-190x320.jpeg 190w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 758px) 100vw, 758px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60321\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tahap pemrosesan kertas HVS menjadi kristal asam oksalat, gagasan tim mahasiswa ITS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Endapan putih kalsium oksalat disaring dahulu lalu ditambahkan 100 mililiter asam sulfat (H2SO4) 96 persen hingga terurai menjadi asam oksalat dan kalsium sulfat. \u201cAsam oksalat diambil dari proses penyaringan dan dicuci menggunakan etanol 96 persen,\u201d papar Lina.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Lina melanjutkan bahwa senyawa asam oksalat ini dipanaskan hingga suhu 70\u00b0C lalu didinginkan dalam air es sekitar 24 jam. \u201cHal ini bertujuan untuk membentuk kristal asam oksalat berupa kristal jarum berwarna putih,\u201d terang mahasiswi kelahiran 1998 ini.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Terakhir, imbuh Lina, kristal asam oksalat ini melalui tahap pengujian titrasi dan uji titik leleh.
