Kampus ITS, ITS News – <\/strong>Mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) tidak henti-hentinya menorehkan sejumlah prestasi. Kali ini, prestasi tersebut datang dari empat mahasiswa ITS yang berhasil memborong empat penghargaan dalam ajang bergengsi Singapore Model United Nations (SMUN) 2021<\/a> yang diselenggarakan selama empat hari, mulai 7 Juni lalu, secara virtual.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Adalah Kennard Mahib Bariumanto (Departemen Sistem Informasi<\/a>) dan Letarensky Thereshanauly (Departemen Teknik Transportasi Laut<\/a>) yang berhasil meraih penghargaan Verbal Commendation<\/em>, serta Jemima Audrey Natasha<\/em> (Departemen Teknik Perkapalan<\/a>) sebagai Most Outstanding Delegate<\/em>, dan Muhammad Fikrar Claverio (Departemen Arsitektur<\/a>) sebagai Best Position Paper.<\/em><\/p>\n

Kennard Mahib Bariumanto, salah satu delegasi ITS di ajang SMUN mengungkapkan, Model United Nations (MUN) sendiri merupakan sebuah konferensi simulasi Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (PBB) yang mengasah kemampuan peserta untuk menjadi diplomat. \u201cKonferensi ini menyediakan wadah bagi delegasi nasional dan internasional, baik di sekolah menengah maupun universitas, untuk terlibat dengan masalah internasional secara diplomatik,\u201d ungkapnya.<\/p>\n

Sesi debat dalam Singapore Model United Nation 2021 yang digelar secara daring<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Dalam konferensi ini, tambah mahasiswa yang akrab disapa Kean ini, tak hanya kemampuan berbahasa Inggris yang diujikan, tetapi juga diplomasi, negosiasi, kepemimpinan, pidato impromptu, drafting<\/em>, dan problem solving skills<\/em> lainnya. \u201cDi kompetisi SMUN, kita akan diberikan topik untuk didiskusikan dan suatu negara yang akan dipresentasikan,\u201d ujar pemuda berkacamata tersebut.<\/p>\n

Dalam empat hari, lanjutnya, kurang lebih peserta diberikan waktu untuk melakukan sesi debat selama 8 kali dengan durasi masing-masing 2,5 jam. Sebelum sampai di tahap ini, mereka perlu melewati empat seleksi yang terdiri dari seleksi berkas, Focus Group Discussion<\/em>, simulasi, dan interview.<\/em><\/p>\n

Menurut mahasiswa kelahiran Jakarta, 6 Juni 2001 ini, tim ITS telah melakukan persiapan secara matang selama tiga bulan. Berkat bimbingan mentor yang ada di ITS MUN Club<\/a>, Kean mengaku mendapat banyak pelajaran. Misalnya debat kusir, yaitu latihan debat untuk berpikir secara impromptu<\/em> dan kritis. \u201cSelain itu, kami juga dilatih dalam hal manner, speech<\/em>, penguasaan materi, tips dan trik, hingga kepenulisan,\u201d terangnya.<\/p>\n

Sebelum mengikuti SMUN, Kean dan ketiga rekannya telah banyak menyabet penghargaan di kompetisi MUN yang lain. Tak heran, ITS MUN Club sendiri memang kerap mengirim delegasinya ke berbagai ajang internasional, dari Jerman hingga Belanda. \u201cKemenangan kita kali ini tentu merupakan pencapaian tertinggi bagi kami karena mampu membawa nama ITS di kancah internasional,\u201d ujarnya bangga.<\/p>\n

Di akhir perbincangan, Kean berharap ITS MUN Club yang kini telah menjadi Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) dapat mengirimkan lebih banyak delegasi di kompetisi bergengsi lainnya. \u201cKe depan, saya juga berharap banyak mahasiswa ITS yang turut bergabung di ITS MUN Club karena dapat membantu meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa inggris mereka di depan publik,\u201d pungkasnya mengakhiri.
