Lumpur yang digunakan juga lumpur asli yang diangkut dari kubangann lumpur Lapindo. <\/p>\n<p>Menurut Prof I Made Arya Djoni, keistimewaan pompa ini dengan pompa yang selama ini ada adalah kekuatan lempar yang luar biasa. \u2019\u2019Pompa yang selama ini digunakan adalah pompa sentrifugal, yang sering macet kalau ada batu atau kerikilnya,\u2019\u2019sambungnya. <\/p>\n<p>Sementara pompa yang risetnya sudah dimulai sejak Agustus lalu ini menggunakan tenaga gesek. Sehingga, lumpur bersama batu dan kerikil tidak akan menyumbat pompa. Menurutnya, kapasitas sedotan pompa berdiameter 17 inchi ini adalah 10 ribu meter kubik per hari.  <\/p>\n<p>\u2019\u2019Ini baru miniaturnya sudah bisa menyedot sedemikian banyak, apalagi kalau dibuat dalam versi yang jauh lebih besar,\u2019\u2019tambahnya. Selain daya sedot yang begitu banyak, pengaliran lumpur Lapindo ini juga lebih hemat biaya. <\/p>\n<p>Menurut dosen Teknik Mesin ini, Jepang pernah menawarkan harga operasional penyedotan lumpur Lapindo Rp 38 miliar per hari. Sedangkan dengan metode ini hanya membutuhkan dana operasional sebanyak Rp 10,9 juta per hari. \u2019\u2019Hitung saja berapa penghematannya,\u2019\u2019lanjutnya. <\/p>\n<p>Djoni menyatakan star pump ini dibutuhkan untuk mendukung metode Bernoulli. Sebenarnya, kekuatan semburan lumpur ini dapat digunakan untuk mengalirkan lumpur tersebut. Namun, kekuatan semburan hanya kuat untuk mendorong hingga 2000 meter. Sedangkan <em>wet land<\/em>, atau area yang digunakan untuk membuang lumpur ini berada di jarak 4 kilometer dari pusat semburan. \u2019\u2019Karena itu kita butuh pompa ini, untuk menambah kekuatan dorong lumpur,\u2019\u2019lanjutnya. <\/p>\n<p>Rencananya, Rabu (19\/12), hasil riset LPPM ini akan didemonstrasikan di hadapan BPLS dan para pejabat berwenang. \u2019\u2019Sebenarnya mereka ingin melihat kemarin, tapi baru besok jadinya,\u2019\u2019tambahnya. Setelah itu, baru mereka akan merundingkan apakah metode ini akan segera diterapkan untuk mengatasi lumpur lapindo.
