Di minggu ini, Peneliti Utama Manajemen Lingkungan Badan Tenaga Nuklir Nasional (Batan) Ir Sucipto MSi berkesempatan mengenalkan teknologi disposal limbah radioaktif secara menyeluruh pada Jumat, (30\/4) lalu.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Di awal, Sucipto memberikan gambaran bahwa limbah radioaktif (LRA) adalah zat radioaktif, bahan, dan peralatan yang telah terkena zat radioaktif atau menjadi radioaktif karena pengoperasian instalasi nuklir yang tidak dapat digunakan lagi. Disana terdapat beberapa cara pengolahan LRA yang telah dilakukan sejak tahun 1988. Diantaranya adalah evaporasi, sementasi, kompaksi, dan insinerasi yang semuanya bergantung pada bentuk dari LRA yang dikirimkan. Misalnya LRA dalam bentuk cair akan diolah dengan cara evaporasi sehingga hasil penguapannya adalah udara bersih.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJika bisa, diawal sudah dihindari dan pilih yang minim menghasilkan limbah radioaktif,\u201d pesan beliau. Hal tersebut karena tidak semua LRA dapat dikirimkan ke PTLR Batan karena adanya Kriteria Keterimaan Limbah (WAC) yang diterapkan. Beberapa kriteria tersebut adalah keterimaan radionuklida, aktivitas maksimum, kualitas kemasan limbah, dan aktivitas maksimum per kemasan limbah. Tipe disposal baru ini ditujukan untuk level limbah sangat rendah hingga sedang yang dikirimkan ke PTLR Batan.
