Dalam hal ini, pelayaran juga turut menyumbangkan emisi karbon dioksida (CO2) global sejalan dengan meningkatnya aktivitas industri di perkapalan. Alasan itulah yang menggerakkan Prof Dr Ir I Ketut Suastika MSc, guru besar Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), untuk mengurangi konsumsi bahan bakar kapal dengan memprediksi hambatan menggunakan <em>Computational Fluid Dynamics<\/em> (CFD).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Dalam orasi ilmiah pengukuhannya, Rabu (31\/3) nanti, dosen yang akrab disapa Suastika ini memaparkan hasil risetnya yang berjudul <em>Peran Dinamika Fluida Komputasi dalam Riset dan Inovasi Teknik Perkapalan untuk Kemajuan Bangsa<\/em>. Riset yang menghantarkan Suastika menjadi guru besar itu, membahas mengenai penerapan CFD dalam upaya untuk mengurangi hambatan kapal, dengan demikian dapat mengurangi konsumsi bahan bakar pada kapal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">CFD atau biasa kita kenal dengan nama dinamika fluida komputasi adalah salah satu cabang ilmu mekanika fluida yang menerapkan metode numerik dalam mempelajari fenomena aliran fluida. Dosen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/tkapal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Departemen Teknik Perkapalan ITS<\/a> tersebut mengungkapkan bahwa perangkat lunak CFD dipilih karena dinilai lebih praktis. \u201cCFD dapat disimpan dalam satu server dan diakses di manapun, selain itu eksperimen yang dilakukan lebih hemat biaya dibandingkan dengan melakukan pengujian fisik,\u201d kata lelaki kelahiran Klungkung, 31 Desember 1969 ini.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Dosen yang bergelut di bidang hidrodinamika ini menjelaskan, dalam aplikasinya CFD digunakan untuk memprediksi besar hambatan kapal. Contoh dalam praktiknya adalah adanya <em>biofouling<\/em>, yang mana merupakan tanaman, kerang, atau hewan laut yang menempel pada lambung kapal. Ia juga berujar bahwa penyebaran <em>biofouling<\/em> tidak merata, oleh karena itu kekasarannya bersifat tak-homogen. \u201cKekasaran tak-homogen akibat <em>biofouling<\/em> ini dimodelkan dengan CFD dan diperkirakan dapat meningkatkan hambatan hingga 80 persen,\u201d terangnya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Setelah dilakukan pemodelan menggunakan CFD, didapatkan hasil yang menarik perhatian Suastika. Hasil pertama adalah pengaruh urutan kekasaran sangat menentukan kekasaran akhir, jika dimulai dengan kekasaran tinggi, maka hambatannya lebih tinggi. Sebaliknya, jika tinggi kekasaran menurun maka akan terjadi undershoot. \u201cFenomena ini masih menjadi objek studi terkini yang aktif dan menarik untuk diteliti,\u201d ujar Suastika.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Tak hanya itu, pada riset ini Suastika juga memaparkan mengenai pemanfaatan vane atau hidrofoil sebagai energy saving device pada kapal, yang mana tujuannya juga untuk mengurangi hambatan. Setelah dilakukan simulasi menggunakan CFD, didapatkan hasil yang senada dengan hasil eksperimen di laboratorium. \u201cHal ini akan menjadi arah penelitian ke depan dengan mengembangan teknik pengendalian vane menggunakan teknologi kecerdasan buatan atau <em>Artificial Intelligence<\/em> (AI),\u201d harapnya.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Di akhir, Suastika menyampaikan bahwa sebagai negara kepulauan, pengembangan infrastruktur dan peningkatan konektivitas maritim di Indonesia menjadi prioritas dalam pembangunan nasional.
