Design of a halal, healthy, and modern canteen with digital transformation in the ITS Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Engineering Department<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

ITS Campus, ITS News<\/strong> \u2013 Reflecting on the Covid-19 pandemic situation that relies on a healthy lifestyle with adequate health protocols, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) pays attention to snacks sold in the campus area. To that end, the community service team (Abmas) and thematic community service program (KKN) planned the first halal and healthy canteen revitalization design at its Department of Marine Engineering<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This halal and healthy canteen culinary development and socialization activity is a community service program organized by the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM) through ITS Halal Study Center (PKH). Chaired by Dr. Eng M Badrus Zaman ST MT, this activity involves micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) who partner in the Marine Engineering Department canteen.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the lecturer, who is commonly called Badrus, the urgency of a healthy and halal canteen is related to Law No.33 of 2014 on Halal Product Guarantee. The legal states that halal certification obligations take effect five years after they are enacted. In this case, the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) is tasked with preparing halal certification for products traded in Indonesia since October 17, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

The transaction process for a halal, healthy, and modern canteen is conceptualized in the ITS Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding Engineering Department.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In addition to the policy, Badrus again mentioned, this draft is also related to the double degree internationalization program established between the Marine Engineering Department of ITS and Wismar University, Germany. “We have foreign students and lecturers who often come periodically (at ITS), so it is necessary to revitalize the development of halal, healthy, and modern canteens to support academic programs,” he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the pandemic, campus canteen businesses need to pay special attention to product hygiene and selling innovations as adaptation strategies. Badrus also stated that the world’s campuses also redesigned the canteen by conducting digital transformation in its services. “This halal, healthy, and modern canteen at the same time adapts to the Industrial Revolution 4.0,” said the lecturer of Marine Engineering.<\/span><\/p>\n

The program was supported by Dr. Nurhadi Siswantoro, who collaborated with KKN students to help with the design and implementation process. Besides, every element in the program, including KKN students and MSME, are referred to participate in training as halal mobilization cadres organized by ITS PKH. This training discusses the management of halal and healthy menus and the simulation of obtaining halal certification.<\/span><\/p>\n

The program planned to be completed at the end of November is still in the modern canteen design stage and mentoring MSMEs to obtain halal certificates. According to Badrus, this program will be realized during the offline learning process. “In the meantime, MSME actors are currently serving online while preparing for the need if the pandemic ends,” said the doctoral graduate of Kobe University, Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Badrus expects, in this implementation can be following Law No.3\/2014 with the socialization of lecturers, education personnel, as well as students of Marine Engineering. The digital transformation implemented is also expected to support the World Class University (WCU) in ITS. “With the publication of this program hopefully can be applied elsewhere for a collaboration together,” he concluded.
