Hal inilah yang diteliti oleh sejumlah mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) yang tergabung dalam Tim LIP1ST, tentang kemampuan superkapasitor sebagai alternatif pengganti baterai dalam menstabilkan daya (<em>power smoothing<\/em>) dari turbin angin.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Adalah Mohammad Arian Rahmatullah, Muhammad Haikal dan Ilul Rohman, tiga mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Elektro ITS yang mengangkat penelitian ini. Berdasarkan data Kementerian ESDM, potensi daya angin Indonesia mencapai 60.647 megawatt. Namun hingga saat ini, kurang dari 1\/6 saja kapasitas dari yang terpasang yang telah dimanfaatkan. \u201cKarena yang terpasang masih sedikit, jadi tidak kalah penting untuk dilakukan optimasi agar energi yang dihasilkan tidak terbuang sia-sia,\u201d tutur mahasiswa yang akrab disapa Arian ini.<\/p>\n<p>Ditambah lagi, penggunaan baterai sebagai media penyimpanan energi selama ini masih memiliki kekurangan. Tingkat fluktuasi kecepatan angin yang tinggi menyebabkan adanya daya yang kurang mampu ditangkap dengan baik oleh baterai sebagai media penyimpan energi. Kerapatan daya yang kecil pada baterai juga menyebabkan durasi yang lama untuk bisa terisi penuh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBaterai memiliki kemampuan <em>charging<\/em> dan <em>discharging<\/em> yang rendah, <em>life cycle<\/em> yang relatif pendek, serta mudah terbakar karena menggunakan proses kimiawi,\u201d imbuh mahasiswa asal Sampang, Madura ini.<\/p>\n<p>Oleh karenanya, lanjut Arian, diujilah sebuah media penyimpan energi yang memiliki tingkat kerapatan daya yang lebih besar, yaitu superkapasitor. Untuk mengujinya, dibuat pemodelan blok diagram pada perangkat lunak Mathlab Simulink. Setelah itu, di-<em>input<\/em>-kan sebuah studi kasus dalam tiga kondisi, yakni kecepatan angin berubah dengan daya beban konstan, kecepatan angin konstan dengan daya beban berubah, dan kecepatan angin dengan daya beban berubah. \u201cBaik baterai atau superkapasitor, keduanya kami uji daya <em>charging<\/em> dan <em>discharging<\/em>-nya dalam waktu yang sangat singkat, yaitu 5 detik saja,\u201d ungkapnya.<\/p>\n<p>Setelah diuji, penelitian yang dibimbing Vita Lystianingrum Budiharto Putri ST MSc PhD ini mendapati bahwa superkapasitor memiliki daya respon yang sangat baik dan cepat dalam interval waktu yang singkat. Dalam waktu 5 detik, dengan daya turbin angin yang sangat fluktuatif, superkapasitor dapat menangkap secara optimal. Apabila daya melebihi beban, daya akan disimpan seluruhnya. Sebaliknya, ketika daya masuk kurang dari beban, cadangan daya akan disuplai untuk menyetabilkan daya yang dihasilkan oleh turbin angin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeskipun harganya sedikit lebih mahal, <em>lifetime<\/em> superkapasitor tiga kali lebih lama dari baterai, dan kami percaya, tidak menutup kemungkinan di masa mendatang harga superkapasitor mampu bersaing dengan penyimpan energi lainnya,\u201d tandasnya yakin. <strong>(mad\/HUMAS ITS)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kampus ITS, ITS News &#8211; Pemanfaatan angin sebagai pengganti energi penghasil listrik sudah mulai banyak dilakukan, namun karakteristik angin yang sangat fluktuatif membutuhkan sebuah media penyimpan energi yang sangat sensitif untuk merespon daya.
