Kampus ITS, Opini – <\/b>Setiap tanggal 10 Januari, dunia memperingati hari sejuta pohon. Sebuah momentum yang menjadi pengingat betapa pentingnya kelestarian pohon. Rentetan berita mengungkapkan hutan kerap dibabat habis oleh oknum tertentu. Mereka seolah abai dengan takdir yang menunjuk pohon sebagai roda penyokong kehidupan alam ini.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Indonesia tersohor di seluruh dunia dengan berkah hutan-hutan tropis terluas kepunyaannya. Hutan menjadi pusat produksi komponen penting kehidupan seperti, penyedia oksigen untuk bernapas, penyerap air hujan sebagai cadangan air, pemanggul keseimbangan lingkungan, bahkan pemasok bahan baku kegiatan ekonomi. Banyak gunanya, tak banyak yang sadar perannya.<\/span><\/p>\n

Katakanlah, manusia-manusia ini terlena. Di benaknya, pohon-pohon itu tak akan ada habisnya.\u00a0 Merasa tak diawasi empunya, akhirnya mereka melakukan segala cara demi keuntungan. Kian merebaknya penebangan liar, kebakaran hutan, serta alih fungsi lahan menjadi buktinya. Dilansir dari <\/span>Tirto<\/span><\/i>, Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK) memantau bahwa api telah membakar lebih dari 120 ribu hektar hutan hingga akhir September 2020 lalu.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Menurut Nina Yuliati dalam buku <\/span>Pengenalan Bencana Kebakaran dan Kabut Asap Lintas Batas <\/span><\/i>(2018), 90 persen kebakaran hutan dan lahan disebabkan oleh manusia, baik karena kecerobohan maupun kesengajaan. Tak heran, Nina menyatakan, metode tebas dan bakar ini memang biasa dilakukan di negara berkembang seperti Indonesia sebagai metode paling efektif untuk kegiatan alih fungsi dan pembukaan lahan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Belum lagi soal rilis data yang menyatakan jumlah lahan kritis di Indonesia mencapai 14 juta hektar. Angka ini cukup mencengangkan sebab hampir mendekati luasnya pulau Jawa sekitar 12,9 juta hektar. Diwartakan oleh <\/span>Antaranews,<\/span><\/i> KLHK mengungkapkan bahwa tingginya lahan kritis ini disebabkan oleh berkurangnya lahan basah, perluasan lahan industri, serta dinamika penggunaan lahan yang mengubah fungsi lahan prima untuk persawahan menjadi pemukiman penduduk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kiranya, aktivitas komersialisasi hutan ini masih menjadi dambaan orang. Terlebih dalam masa pandemi Covid-19 ini dimana negara mengalami penurunan pertumbuhan ekonomi. Forest Watch Indonesia (FWI) pun mengkhawatirkan adanya potensi sektor kehutanan menjadi salah satu sektor yang akan ditingkatkan pendapatannya untuk mencukupi kebutuhan ekonomi. Kabar ini mendorong masifnya investasi lahan dengan cara penebangan dan konversi hutan atas nama pertumbuhan ekonomi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Berbagai kisah yang memuat ancaman terhadap kerusakan hutan itu semestinya menjadi sirine bagi kita untuk lebih memperhatikan sang paru-paru dunia. Kita bisa memulai dengan langkah-langkah kecil untuk mengembalikan ekosistem lingkungan seperti sedia kala. Ekosistem yang asri dan sehat pastinya dapat memberikan perisai bagi seluruh makhluk hidup yang ada di dalamnya.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ketertarikan masyarakat terhadap budidaya tanaman selama masa karantina pandemi Covid-19 setidaknya menjadi angin segar untuk kita semua. Artinya, masyarakat masih punya kesadaran terhadap kehidupan pohon-pohon ini. Meski demikian, tergerak untuk menanam saja tak cukup. Pohon-pohon tersebut perlu terus dirawat sampai tumbuh kokoh dan rindang, sehingga dapat meneruskan peran awalnya yaitu, menjadi penyokong kehidupan makhluk hidup di muka bumi ini.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
