Seperti halnya tiga orang mahasiswa dari Departemen Teknologi Rekayasa Kimia Industri berhasil menciptakan inovasi lewat penelitian mereka yang menghasilkan kopolimer gel penyerap ion logam berat.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tim yang diketuai oleh Zela Marni Safitri ini beranggotakan beranggotakan Muhammad Asyam Dzaky dan Serli Dwi Rahayu. Ketiganya berhasil menciptakan kopolimer gel sebagai adsorben (zat penyerap) berbasis N-Isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) kitosan dan asam akrilat. Kopolimer gel sendiri merupakan senyawa besar (polimer) yang dibentuk oleh lebih dari satu jenis molekul kecil (monomer), sementara NIPAM merupakan monomer yang sensitif terhadap suhu.<\/p>\n<p>Menurut keterangan Zela, kopolimer gel yang dihasilkan timnya merupakan adsorben yang mampu meningkatkan penyerapan ion logam berat pada limbah hasil proses pelapisan logam (<em>electroplating<\/em>). Zela menyebut, tantangan utama yang dirasakan adalah peralihan sistem perkuliahan dari luring menjadi daring sebagai dampak dari adanya pandemi Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>Perubahan sistem tersebut berpengaruh kepada proses penelitian yang tim Zela lakukan, di mana penelitian yang semula menggunakan laboratorium menjadi beralih ke studi literatur.
