Hal tersebut mendorong mahasiswa Departemen Kimia, Fakultas Sains dan Analitika Data, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Alvin Rahmad Widyanto untuk meneliti mengenai membran karbon serat berongga yang dapat digunakan dalam penyaringan gas hidrogen dan gas lainnya.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Melanjutkan penelitian Dr Triyanda Gunawan, Alvin menjelaskan, prinsip kerja dari membran karbon ini dengan menyaring gas yang masuk ke membran akan terpisahkan karena adanya perbedaan ukuran partikel pada setiap gas. Pada penelitian yang juga menjadi topik Tugas Akhirnya, Alvin lebih mempelajari mengenai pengaruh laju pemanasan pada proses pembuatan membran karbon terhadap ukuran pori-pori yang dihasilkan.<\/p>\n<p>Berdasarkan penelitiannya, didapatkan bahwa laju pemanasan yang menghasilkan ukuran pori-pori terbaik didapatkan sebesar 3 derajat Celcius per menit. Sedangkan semakin kecil laju pemanasannya, ukuran pori yang dihasilkan sjuga emakin kecil. Hal tersebut dikarenakan adanya keterbatasan dari membran karbon ini yang memiliki sifat mudah rapuh. \u201cSehingga membran ini mampu membantu produksi hidrogen sebagai energi terbarukan masa depan yang tidak memerlukan banyak energi untuk memisahkannya,\u201d papar mahasiswa berkaca mata ini.<\/p>\n<p>Dalam melakukan penelitiannya, Alvin juga dibimbing langsung oleh dosennya, Nurul Widiastuti SSi MSi PhD dan peneliti dari Jepang, Prof Mikihiro Nomura.
