Berangkat dari permasalahan tersebut, tim Abdi Karya Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) merancang instalasi pengolahan air limbah (IPAL) untuk laundry berbasis reuse, recycle, dan recovery (3R).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ketua tim Abdi Karya, Cindy Synthia Putri, mengungkapkan jika banyak usaha laundry saat ini yang tidak memiliki IPAL. Limbah air laundry yang mereka hasilkan cenderung dibuang begitu saja tanpa diolah terlebih dulu. Padahal, limbah ini mengandung ragam zat yang berbahaya. \u201cKandungan ini berasal dari campuran deterjen dan kotoran pada pakaian,\u201d ungkap Cindy.<\/p>\n<p>Kandungan berbahaya dari limbah tersebut, menurut Cindy, antara lain adalah Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), dan fosfat. Cindy menjabarkan, nilai BOD dan COD yang tinggi dapat menyebabkan defisit oksigen yang larut di air. Sementara itu, TSS mampu mengeruhkan air dan menghalangi cahaya matahari masuk. \u201cSedangkan, fosfat dapat mendegradasi kehidupan biota air dan meningkatkan unsur hara,\u201d jelas mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Lingkungan ini.<\/p>\n<p>Oleh karenanya, lanjut Cindy, USK laundry memerlukan unit pengolahan yang dapat mengurangi risiko pencemaran lingkungan tersebut. Desain IPAL rancangan Cindy dan tim ini bersifat portabel. Selanjutnya, limbah akan disaring menggunakan pasir kali melalui proses filter biosand. Lalu, air olahan akan melalui dua kali proses adsorpsi karbon aktif menggunakan adsorben tempurung kelapa. \u201cTerakhir, limbah yang telah diolah ini akan menjadi bersih dan dapat dikumpulkan ke dalam tandon air,\u201d ujarnya.<\/p>\n<p>Menurut Cindy, IPAL rancangan mereka semakin unggul berkat penerapan 3R. Prinsip recycle terlihat pada air olahannya yang dapat digunakan kembali untuk menyiram tanaman hidroponik, mencuci kendaraan, serta dapat dialirkan ulang ke unit pengolahan lagi. Selain itu, pasir kali yang mulai kotor akibat proses filter dapat digunakan kembali (reuse) setelah dicuci dengan air bersih. \u201cSementara, adsorben jenuh yang dihasilkan dapat dimanfaatkan (recovery) sebagai pupuk,\u201d sebutnya.<\/p>\n<p>Selain Cindy, anggota lainnya dalam tim Abdi Karya ITS ini adalah Nabila Putri R, Nandalita Alifia, dan Oktsyavitto Adhitya dari Departemen Teknik Lingkungan. Selain mereka, ada pula Vaneti Kyash L dan Wahid Ramadhan S dari Departemen Arsitektur. Terakhir, ada Ifarrel Rachmanda H, mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Sipil. \u201cKami bertujuh berhasil mengolaborasikan ide menjadi rancangan nyata,\u201d tutur Cindy bangga.<\/p>\n<p>Berbuah manis, jerih payah mereka berhasil membawa prestasi. IPAL rancangan tim Abdi Karya ITS ini telah berhasil meraih juara utama kategori USK Laundry dan Batik dalam lomba Desain Inovasi IPAL 2020, pada 18 September lalu. Cindy berkeinginan, inovasi yang mereka gagas dapat dikembangkan lagi hingga semakin matang digunakan pegiat bisnis laundry. \u201cSaya harap, dampak pencemaran limbah ini dapat teratasi dengan IPAL kami,\u201d pungkasnya.
