The process of building the Bamboo School by Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Team together with local citizens<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Kampus ITS, ITS News <\/strong>\u2013 The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) recently showed again its huge concern for the victims of the 2018 earthquake in the North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). In collaboration with Universitat Stuttgart, the Nahdlatul Ulama University, and the Aurbamboo team<\/a>, ITS Thematic Student Study Service this time is focused on the bamboo school construction project in Rempek Village.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This Thematic Student Study Service, which was initiated by the first team on February 10, was then reconnected by the second team. For about two weeks, starting on February 23, the second team consisting of Trisia Mega Putri, Nafiah Salsabila, Martanti Aji Pangestu, and Malai Saidatul Abidah, pursued and continued the bamboo school project to the main construction stage.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the results of the survey conducted by the first team on land contour adjustments, Trisia explained that this bamboo school has a hexagonal shape with three high-trusses and three low-trusses arranged alternately. <\/span><\/p>\n

“And currently in this period, we are responsible for the overall building structure and roof construction,” said this Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Architecture Department<\/a> student.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, other students, for example, those from the Department of Regional and City Planning<\/a>, conducted a noise test on the location of the school considering its position on the edge of the highway. So there is a plan to plant plants that will serve as a vehicle silencer fence. And last but not least, bamboo will be planted on the sides adjacent to the ravine for safety reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the other hand, Malai explained that his and his field of science\u2019s presence is to help determine the detailed scale of the design mockups that had been made. <\/span><\/p>\n

In spite of the respective scientific disciplines, all team members always work together hand-in-hand in carrying out this project. In addition to two other campus students, the work was then divided into two to make it more efficient. One group was assigned to the overall building structure and the preservation of bamboo, while the other was tasked to build the foundation and to install a frame.<\/span><\/p>\n

When the second team accomplishes their tasks, there is the last team that consists of Faris Salman Ely, Rizky Olda Putri Salsabilla, Devi Novita Sari, Nuha Aulia Rahman, and Dio Astya Firmansyah. <\/span><\/p>\n

“This final team is tasked with working on the finalization stage which includes the construction of walls and roofs of buildings,” revealed Dio, a student of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Regional and Urban Planning Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this period, continued Dio, the bamboo school project should have been inaugurated. But because there were several obstacles, one of which is the weather, the process could not be completed on time. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo, the process was then continued by the Aurbamboo team for about five more days, because students from the three campuses were scheduled to go home,” he elaborated.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aurbamboo, a local bamboo craftsman community from Sembalun Lawang, East Lombok, became the recipient of a bamboo school project contract from Universitat Stuttgart. Thus, they are also tasked to guide the local community and students to be able to know the benefits of bamboo, especially as a building material.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dio and his colleagues, that are working on the Thematic Student Study Service, hope to continue communicating with the residents of Rempek Village so that the maintenance of the bamboo school can be maintained through thorough coordination when encountering problems. <\/span><\/p>\n
