Kampus ITS, ITS News \u2013 Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Kimia (Himatekk) Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) sukses menggelar National Olympiad of Chemical Engineering (NOPEC) 2020. Acara ini menjadi penutup rangkaian kegiatan dari Chemical Engineering Innovation Festival (Chernival) pada Minggu (9\/2) dengan Gala Dinner. Bertempat di rumah dinas Walikota Surabaya, penutupan ini sekaligus menjadi malam penghargaan bagi para pemenang.<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Andreas Darmaja, ketua pelaksana NOPEC 2020, menjelaskan bahwa NOPEC merupakan ajang kompetisi yang ditujukan pada siswa-siswi Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) atau sederajat di seluruh Indonesia. Lebih dari itu, menurutnya acara ini memiliki tujuan utama untuk mengenalkan bidang ilmu teknik kimia yang ada di ITS sekaligus menyaring mahasiswa penerus yang unggul.<\/span><\/p>\n

Senada dengan hal tersebut, Dr Widiyastuti ST MT selaku Kepala Departemen Teknik Kimia ITS menekankan bahwa kegiatan ini dimaksudkan sebagai ajang pengenalan Departemen Teknik Kimia ITS bagi pelajar SMA dan sederajat yang hendak melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang perguruan tinggi.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOleh karena itu, di ajang NOPEC ini peserta diberi pemahaman mengenai perbedaan teknik kimia dengan bidang ilmu lainnya melalui persoalan-persoalan yang dihadapi selama berkompetisi,\u201d ucap dosen yang kerap disapa Widi ini.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tercatat ada 2.404 tim yang mendaftar dan mengikuti tahap penyisihan melalui sistem online. Dari ribuan tim itu diseleksi lagi di tahap perempat final hingga akhirnya terpilih 25 tim yang melaju ke semifinal. \u201cPadai tahap semifinal, peserta mulai mengikuti kompetisi secara langsung di kampus ITS,\u201d imbuh mahasiswa asal Situbondo ini.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tidak hanya mengerjakan soal-soal olimpiade di bidang ilmu teknik kimia, peserta juga diajak terjun langsung merasakan praktikum di laboratorium Departemen Teknik Kimia ITS. Selain itu, ada pula permainan-permainan interaktif yang sengaja dirancang untuk mengenalkan bidang ilmu keteknik-kimiaan melalui cara yang menyenangkan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peserta juga diberi kesempatan untuk mengetahui kondisi langsung mengenai industri di suatu perusahaan. Adalah PT Yakult Indonesia Persada yang dipilih sebagai destinasi kunjungan industrinya. Lebih lanjut, Andre mengutarakan hanya ada lima tim terbaik yang lolos ke babak final. Untuk para peserta yang belum berhasil masuk ke babak final, mereka tetap bisa mengikuti kegiatan lain berupa kunjungan ke beberapa tempat di Kota Surabaya.<\/span><\/p>\n

Setelah melalui berbagai kompetisi dan persaingan poin yang ketat, akhirnya terpilihlah tiga tim di posisi teratas. Adalah Tim Doa Ibu asal SMAN 1 Kota Serang yang berhasil keluar sebagai juara pertama dan berhak atas tiket masuk ke Departemen Teknik Kimia ITS. \u201cTiket masuk tersebut merupakan penghargaan atas usaha maksimal yang telah diberikan peserta hingga berhasil merebut juara pertama,\u201d papar mahasiswa angkatan 2017 ini.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Widi berharap agar penyelenggaraan NOPEC bisa semakin membaik dari tahun ke tahun. Menurutnya, NOPEC kedepannya dapat lebih memperbanyak variasi soal atau bahkan mengundang praktisi sebagai juri. Sedangkan, Andre berharap pelaksanaan NOPEC 2020 bisa memberikan pengalaman yang sangat berharga bagi seluruh peserta. \u201cSemoga NOPEC 2020 ini bisa memberikan manfaat bagi peserta,\u201d pungkas Andre.
