Merespon hal itu, dosen Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Dr rer nat Fredy Kurniawan SSi MSi baru-baru ini meneliti ekstrak tanaman sambiloto sebagai anti radiasi Ultraviolet (UV).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Menurut Fredy, potensi tanaman obat telah banyak dikembangkan di Indonesia, khususnya di bidang farmasi. \u201cDi sini kami mencoba menggali lebih dalam potensi lain yang belum pernah dikembangkan pada penelitian sebelumnya, yang penting tanaman ini tersedia melimpah di Indonesia dengan budidayanya yang mudah,\u201d jelas Kepala Departemen Kimia, Fakultas Sains dan Analitika Data ITS ini.<\/p>\n<p>Ia pun mengatakan, di sisi lain pemanfaatan dan pengembangan tanaman obat pada penelitian ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan nilai ekonomis dari aset alami negara Indonesia. Tanaman yang memiliki nama latin Andrographis paniculata L. Senyawa tersebut merupakan senyawa bioaktif primer Andrographolide, yang mana merupakan golongan senyawa terpenoid khususnya diterpene lakton.<\/p>\n<p>Pada penelitian yang dibantu tim mahasiswa ini, terang Fredy, untuk mengekstraksi tanaman obat menggunakan metode maserasi. Selanjutnya, untuk metode analisis menggunakan metode spektrofotometri Ultraviolet dan spektrofotometri fluoresens. Salah satu contohnya adalah dikarenakan sampelnya berupa bahan alami, sehingga komponen (matriks) yang terkandung di dalamnya cukup kompleks. Fredy mengungkapkan bahwa penelitiannya saat ini sedang dalam proses publikasi ilmiah.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMemang saat ini belum ada kerja sama dengan pihak ketiga, tetapi untuk ke depannya sudah ada rencana untuk bisa diproduksi massal,\u201d ujarnya.
