Dengan kreativitas yang dimiliki, mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) berhasil menyulap limbah ampas pati aren dan kulit hewan udang-udangan (Crustacea) menjadi biodegradable filamen untuk keperluan 3D printing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Adalah Ghozi Nashiruddin, otak di balik inovasi tersebut. Menurutnya, teknologi 3D printing patut menjadi perhatian dunia di era Revolusi Industri 4.0. Teknologi ini mampu mencetak berbagai material dalam bentuk 3D dari sebuah desain digital yang dibuat sebelumnya. \u201cTeknologi 3D printing memiliki kegunaan yang luas mulai dari bidang arsitektur, militer, transportasi, antariksa, hingga medis,\u201d paparnya.<\/p>\n<p>Di sisi lain, mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Material ITS ini mengungkapkan, Indonesia dikaruniai keanekaragaman Sumber Daya Alam (SDA) material alami. Yang disayangkan olehnya, terkadang SDA ini tidak dimanfaatkan secara optimal. \u201cContohnya, limbah ampas pati aren dan kulit hewan udang-udangan yang justru menjadi limbah pencemar lingkungan,\u201d terangnya.<\/p>\n<p>Dijelaskan oleh pemuda yang akrab disapa Ghozi ini, ampas pati aren memiliki kandungan selulosa yang cukup tinggi yaitu sebesar 76,35 persen dari beratnya. Selulosa tersebut dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan polimer alam dalam bentuk Poli Asam Laktat (PLA). \u201cPLA sendiri merupakan bahan filamen 3D, walau biasanya bukan diolah dari limbah,\u201d papar mahasiswa berkacamata ini.<\/p>\n<p>Sedangkan limbah kulit hewan Crustacea seperti udang, kepiting, dan rajungan, lanjut Ghozi, memiliki kandungan zat kitosan. Karya yang pernah dilombakan pada ajang Material and Metallurgical Paper Competition (MPC) 2019 ini memang sengaja dibuat ramah lingkungan, karena memiliki kemampuan mengurai seiring berjalannya waktu. \u201cKarena tema perlombaan saat itu material eco-friendly, maka saya menggunakan bahan-bahan yang bisa terurai sewaktu-waktu,\u201d tuturnya.<\/p>\n<p>Meskipun dapat terurai sewaktu-waktu, Ghozi mengungkapkan, zat kitosan yang digunakan dalam filamen berpengaruh pada peningkatan kekuatan filamen. Selain itu, ia menjelaskan, kitosan juga dapat meningkatkan ketahanan filamen terhadap bakteri. \u201cAkibatnya umur filamen bisa menjadi lebih panjang,\u201d tukasnya.<\/p>\n<p>Di sisi lain, Ghozi tidak menampik bahwa inovasinya masih memiliki kekurangan. Ghozi memberi contoh terkait pencampuran antara PLA-Kitosan yang kadang menimbulkan penurunan kualitas dari filamen tersebut. \u201cProses percampuran (blending) yang dilakukan dalam kondisi tertentu akan menimbulkan pori pada filamen,\u201d terangnya.<\/p>\n<p>Oleh karena itu, Ghozi berharap ke depannya penelitian ini dapat disempurnakan oleh pihak lain. Secara pribadi, ia mengatakan belum memiliki rencana lebih lanjut dalam pengembangannya. \u201cTerkait rencana komersialisasi mungkin ada, karena ide ini dirasa dapat mengurangi limbah di Indonesia serta menyongsong keberjalanan revolusi industri 4.0,\u201d ujarnya.<\/p>\n<p>Usaha yang dicurahkan Ghozi untuk penelitian ini tidak sia-sia. Inovasinya tersebut telah berhasil menyabet juara pertama dalam kategori Industri pada ajang MPC 2019 yang diselenggarakan oleh Teknik Material dan Metalurgi Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK), beberapa waktu lalu.
