Penelitian ini dipaparkan dalan disertasinya yang dipresentasikan pada sidang terbuka promosi doktor, Kamis (29\/8).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Siddiq, panggilan akrabnya, mengungkapkan bahwa ia sangat tertarik dengan optik semenjak kuliah program sarjana (S-1). Hal itu menuntunnya pada penelitian tentang laser fiber optik dengan bahan nonlinear yakni timah oksida. \u201cSelain itu, penelitian ini tergolong baru dan belum ada penelitian tentang hal ini sebelumnya,\u201d aku pria asal Sumenep ini ditemui usai sidang.<\/p>\n<p>Sidang yang dipromotori oleh Dr Melania Suweni Muntini MT dan Dr Yono Hadi Pramono MEng ini menjelaskan tentang salah satu komponen utama laser Q-switched, yakni Saturable Absorber. Contoh bahan yang dibuat laser tersebut adalah Nd:YAG. Nd:YAG merupakan logam tanah jarang yang terlalu mahal. \u201cOleh sebab itu saya membuat bahan tersebut dari timah oksida,\u201d ungkap Siddiq.<\/p>\n<p>Siddiq menjelaskan, timah menjadi bahan utama karena Indonesia merupakan negara penghasil timah terbesar kedua di dunia. Negara nomor satu penghasil timah terbesar adalah RRT (Republik Rakyat Tiongkok). Kemudahan dalam memodifikasi sifat (doping, dimensi, parameter sintesis), nilai bandgap-nya yang relatif besar (3.6 eV) dan masuk dalam kategori wide bandgap semiconductor. Sifat transparannya pada rentang cahaya tampak (transmittansi lebih dari 97 persen pada ketebalan 0.1 \u00b5m hingga 1 \u00b5m). \u201cSelain itu timah oksida memiliki stabilitas fisika dan kimia yang tinggi,\u201d paparnya.<\/p>\n<p>Menurut Siddiq, timah oksida juga memiliki kelebihan dari zat lainnya seperti mobilitas elektron yang tinggi (250 cm2 V\u22121 s\u22121), nonlinieritas optik yang relatif tinggi (3,8 \u00d7 10-12 esu), preparasinya yang mudah pada temperatur relatif rendah (di bawah 200 Celcius). \u201cTentunya harga timah ini relatif murah,\u201d ujar Siddiq.<\/p>\n<p>Tujuan dari penelitian ini sendiri, lanjut Siddiq, adalah untuk mengetahui hasil pengujian kinerja laser Q-switched seperti panjang gelombang yang beroperasi, pengaruh daya laser pemompa, dan stabilitas. Memperoleh besarnya nilai nonlinieritas optik dari SnO2 dalam hal saturable absorption. \u201cSerta mengetahui metode yang tepat dalam proses deposisi SnO2 untuk mewujudkan laser Q-switched pasif,\u201d terang Siddiq lebih lanjut.<\/p>\n<p>Hasil penelitian ini telah dipublikasikan dalam jurnal Internasional bereputasi dan terindeks Scopus seperti Laser Physics dan Optics Communication. Siddiq mengatakan, penelitian ini memiliki dua manfaat. Manfaat yang pertama adalah laser dengan timah oksida ini mampu memanfaatkan potensi alam dari Indonesia, sehingga timah tersebut dapat dikelola menjadi SnO2. Terutama karena bahan SnO2 ada di Indonesia. Bila akan dijadikan roadmap penelitian sampai hilirisasi dan fabrikasi, maka Indonesia akan memiliki Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC). PIC tersebut yang bisa menerobos batas kemampuan IC menjadi PIC. \u201cMemang ini berat tapi bukan sesuatu yang mustahil, semoga pemerintah juga tertarik untuk pengembangan teknologi tinggi di Indonesia,\u201d ujar Melania.<\/p>\n<p>Harapannya adalah dengan penelitian ini, laser fiber Q-switched yang sudah diteliti mampu dikembangkan secara terus menerus. \u201cLaser fiber Q-switchedini juga dapat dikembangkan agar bisa digunakan untuk menembak mati tumor yang berada di dalam tubuh manusia,\u201d pungkasnya.
