Padahal sektor pertanian sendiri menggunakan air untuk irigasi sekitar 70 persen hingga 90 persen dari seluruh kebutuhan air di bumi. Melihat kondisi ini, mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) merancang penelitian yang diharapkan mampu membantu mereduksi pencemaran air tersebut.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mahasiswa doktoral dari Departemen Teknik Lingkungan yang bernama Kiki Gustinasari ini melakukan penelitian berjudul Constructed Wetlands &#8211; Microbial Fuel Cells (CWs &#8211; MFCs) sebagai Pereduksi Herbisida Glifosat dan Aplikasi Biosensor untuk Toxicity Warning pada Limpasan Persawahan.<\/p>\n<p>Dijelaskan Kiki, tujuan dari penelitiannya ini ialah untuk membuktikan bahwa CWs MFCs sebagai infrastruktur ramah lingkungan mampu mereduksi residu herbisida glifosat, yang merupakan jenis pestisida pada sektor pertanian. Diakuinya, penggunaan herbisida glifosat memberikan dampak buruk terhadap makhluk hidup di perairan. \u201cDapat menyebabkan tingkat kematian yang tinggi untuk binatang amfibi, serta berefek letal bagi beberapa jenis plankton,\u201d ungkapnya.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40930 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-08-20-at-16.25.56.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-08-20-at-16.25.56.jpeg 683w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-08-20-at-16.25.56-200x300.jpeg 200w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-08-20-at-16.25.56-213x320.jpeg 213w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Visualisasi reaktor CWs &#8211; MFCs laboratorium yang digunakan untuk eksperimen pada penelitian Kiki Gustinasari<\/p>\n<p>MFCs sendiri, lanjut Kiki, merupakan teknologi pembangkit energi dan pengurangan polusi melalui bakteri. Sedangkan CWs merupakan sistem berbasis alam yang banyak digunakan pada bidang pertanian sebagai filter areal pertanian dengan badan air. Penggabungan MFCs ke dalam CWs terbukti mampu meningkatkan kinerja CWs dalam mengurangi residu herbisida glifosat.<\/p>\n<p>Dipaparkan Kiki lebih lanjut, anoda pada MFCs memicu reaksi anaerob CWs. \u201cPendekatan ini memiliki keuntungan ganda seperti intensifikasi kinerja CWs dan penghasil listrik,\u201d ungkap mahasiswi penerima beasiswa program Pendidikan Magister Menuju Doktor untuk Sarjana Unggul (PMDSU) ini.<\/p>\n<p>Di samping itu, kata Kiki, MFCs &#8211; CWs pada penelitian ini juga bertujuan sebagai peringatan dini terhadap masuknya bahan-bahan yang tidak diinginkan pada limpasan persawahan. Hal ini disebabkan jenis infrastruktur hijau tersebut mampu menghasilkan sinyal listrik melalui kinerja mikroba. \u201cKinerja mikroba akan turun apabila terdapat zat racun yang mengganggu kehidupan mikroba tersebut,\u201d jelasnya.<\/p>\n<p>Dengan turunnya kinerja mikroba, imbuh Kiki, maka dapat diketahui adanya zat yang tidak diinginkan memasuki area pertanian. Penurunan tersebut nantinya akan ditandai dengan indikasi dropping listrik. \u201cIndikasi inilah yang menjadi peringatan dini sebagai dasar pengambilan keputusan selanjutnya,\u201d ucap perempuan asal Jombang ini.<\/p>\n<p>Dalam penelitian yang ditujukan untuk disertasinya tersebut, mahasiswi yang dibimbing oleh Prof Ir Joni Hermana MSc ES PhD ini mengungkapkan, banyak peneliti lain yang menggunakan CWs untuk menangani limbah pertanian. Namun, penelitian sebelumnya hanya memanfaatkan satu fungsi, yaitu mereduksi polutan. \u201cSedangkan konsep penelitian yang saya lakukan ini selain untuk mereduksi polutan, juga sebagai early warning system,\u201d tutur mahasiswi kelahiran 1 Agustus 1994 ini.<\/p>\n<p>Harapannya, penelitian ini tidak hanya dapat berjalan dengan lancar hingga akhir, tapi juga memperoleh hasil yang memberikan manfaat bagi masyarakat dan perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan. \u201cTidak menutup kemungkinan penelitian ini akan diterapkan di lapangan, tentunya dengan dukungan dari pihak pemerintah,\u201d pungkasnya.
