Berangkat dari hal tersebut, salah satu tim Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) berhasil menemukan sebuah terobosan baru untuk mengatasinya.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tim yang beranggotakan Ahnaf dan Mochammad Yusuf Irianto serta diketuai oleh Wulan Aulia tersebut menggunakan prinsip kombinasi biovolta dan adsorpsi dalam penelitiannya. Ahnaf menjelaskan bahwa pada Cr(VI) yang berasal dari limbah industri ini diubah menjadi Cr(III) yang dinilai aman bagi lingkungan.<\/p>\n<p>Ahnaf mengaku bahwa Cr(VI) jika sampai terkonsumsi oleh tubuh, maka bisa menimbulkan penyakit hingga kematian. Baik itu pada diri manusia ataupun pada hewan. Ahnaf menjelaskan bahwa pada proses tersebut limbah ini awalnya dilakukan dengan proses biovolta yang menggunakan larutan jamur dan sukrosa, di mana sukrosa tersebut dapat memberikan feed bagi jamur untuk bermetabolisme.<\/p>\n<p>Ketika limbah dan jamur tersebut dihubungkan dengan menggunakan elektroda dan jembatan garam, terjadilah aliran elektron yang nantinya dapat mereduksi Cr(VI) pada limbah menjadi Cr(III). Selanjutnya langsung dilakukan adsorpsi dengan menggunakan Al2O3\/ZIF-8. Ahnaf menyebutkan bahwa penelitian ini dilakukan dengan variasi waktu yaitu mulai dari 15 sampai 120 menit dengan interval 15 menit.<\/p>\n<p>Tim yang dibimbing oleh Drs Ratna Ediati MS PhD ini berharap bahwa penelitiannya dapat diaplikasikan nantinya. Memang saat ini masih pada skala penelitian yang belum sempurna, namun pengembangan lebih lanjut mungkin bisa sampai skala industri yang dapat diterapkan. \u201cHal tersebut agar tidak ada lagi pencemaran lingkungan, terutama yang terkait masalah logam berat,\u201d tandasnya.
