Kali ini, mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Lingkungan ITS yang tergabung dalam tim Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa Karsa Cipta (PKM-KC) membuat inovasi alat penghasil listrik dengan memanfaatkan bakteri untuk mengolah polutan dalam air limbah.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Alat yang dinamai Abactor \u2013 Cells ini digunakan sebagai unit pengolah limbah cair tahu skala rumah tangga. Ketua tim, Valianto Rojulun Afif mengatakan, Indonesia memiliki jumlah industri tahu yang cukup banyak, namun sebagian besar sektor industri tahu skala rumah tangga belum memiliki unit pengolah limbah cair tahu. \u201cHal tersebut disebabkan oleh sebagian besar industri tahu skala rumah tangga memiliki keterbatasan finansial dan lahan,\u201d ujarnya.<\/p>\n<p>Sehingga, lanjutnya, limbah cair yang dihasilkan langsung dibuang ke sungai tanpa dilakukan pengolahan terlebih dahulu. \u201cHal ini dapat menyebabkan penurunan daya lingkungan akibat dari tingginya kandungan polutan organik dalam limbah cair tahu,\u201d tutur mahasiswa yang akrab disapa Valianto ini.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39800\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39800\" style=\"width: 717px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-07-04-at-17.39.04.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"717\" height=\"353\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-07-04-at-17.39.04.jpeg 717w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-07-04-at-17.39.04-300x148.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/WhatsApp-Image-2019-07-04-at-17.39.04-355x175.jpeg 355w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 717px) 100vw, 717px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39800\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Visualisasi alat ABACTOR \u2013 CELLS karya mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Lingkungan ITS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Alat Abactor \u2013 Cells yang digarap Valianto bersama kedua temannya, Ahmad Nailul Firdaus dan Wahyu Prayuda ini mengadopsi prinsip kerja dari Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR) dan Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs) yang dikombinasikan menjadi satu unit pengolah.<\/p>\n<p>MFCs merupakan unit pengolah air limbah yang memanfaatkan bakteri untuk mengkonversi polutan organik menjadi energi listrik. Dengan proses tersebut, alat tersebut mampu menghasilkan listrik sebesar 0,336 Watt.hour. Selain itu, unit ini mampu mengurangi kandungan Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) dari 1563,86 mg\/L menjadi 297,474 mg\/L dengan persentase sebesar 81 persen yang setara dengan berat COD sebesar 0,055 kg.<\/p>\n<p>Valianto melanjutkan sedangkan persentase removal untuk kandungan Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) sebesar 84,4 persen dengan inlet BOD sebesar 953,74 mg\/L dan outlet BOD sebesar 148,74 mg\/L. Adanya penurunan nilai COD dan BOD ini menunjukkan bahwa selain menghasilkan energi listrik, Abactor-Cells dapat juga berperan untuk mengurangi pencemaran lingkungan terutama pada badan air.<\/p>\n<p>Valianto mengaku mendapat inspirasi untuk menciptakan pembangkit energi dari mikroorganisme ini ketika ia pergi ke sebuah pameran buku. Ia berharap alat Abactor-Cells ini ini bisa menjadi inovasi pembangkit listrik yang bisa diaplikasikan di Indonesia. \u201cKhususnya di industri tahu, karena alat ini bisa menghasilkan listrik sekaligus mengolah limbah tahu,\u201d pungkasnya.
