Semasa hidup, Kartini memang tidak pernah mengangkat senjata untuk menantang belanda. Namun, namanya disejajarkan dengan para pahlawan kemerdekaan dalam buku-buku sejarah. Hal ini tak lain karena inspirasi dan pemikiran yang Ia wariskan pada para perempuan Indonesia. Demi mengingat nama besarnya,\u00a0 pada tahun 1964 Presiden Soekarno menetapkan\u00a0minggu ketiga di bulan April sebagai Hari Kartini.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hari kartini selalu identik dengan emansipasi wanita. Emansipasi sendiri menurut Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia adalah proses pembebasan diri dari perbudakan. Sederhananya, emansipasi wanita bermakna kesamaan derajat antara wanita dan pria dalam segala pemenuhan hak sebagai warga negara.<\/p>\n<p>Dahulu kala, para wanita memang sengaja diposisikan di bawah pria dalam kasta sosial. Indonesia dengan adat istiadat yang kental tentu tidak jauh berbeda. Pada masa kolonial penjajahan, wanita Indonesia tidak diperbolehkan menempuh pendidikan yang tinggi. Bahkan sampai saat ini, ungkapan \u2018<em>mengapa sekolah tinggi-tinggi kalau nantinya hanya berakhir di dapur<\/em>\u2019 juga seringkali berdengung di telinga masyarakat.<\/p>\n<p>Wanita Indonesia dulu juga diwajibkan untuk menerima pasangan yang dicarikan oleh orang tuanya. Tentu hal tersebut mencederai hak wanita untuk dapat memilih pasangan hidupnya sendiri. Hal yang paling parah, dulu banyak orang tua yang memaksa menikahkan anak wanitanya dengan bangsawan hanya demi mengangkat derajat keluarga mereka. Hal inilah yang juga dialami dan menjadi keresahan sosok Kartini.<\/p>\n<p>Bermula dari kegemarannya membaca surat kabar dan majalah serta buku yang diberikan oleh teman penanya di Belanda, Rosa Abendanon, Ia mulai terbuka tentang pemikiran mengenai <em>feminisme<\/em> yang sedang berkembang di Eropa kala itu. Ia menaruh perhatian pada masalah wanita Indonesia yang berkaitan dengan persamaan hak, kebebasan, otonomi, serta kesetaraan di mata hukum.<\/p>\n<p>Kartini sadar, langkah terbaik untuk mengawali emansipasi bagi wanita Indonesia adalah melalui pendidikan. Karenanya Ia bertekad untuk membangun sekolah wanita pertama, yang akhirnya berhasil Ia dirikan di sebelah kantor pemerintahan Kabupaten Rembang kala itu. Ia sadar bahwa latar belakang pendidikan yang kuat mampu mempelopori tercapainya emansipasi wanita Indonesia di masa depan.<\/p>\n<p>Sesuai dugaan, hasil buah pikir Kartini mulai menunjukan hasilnya saat ini. Sudah banyak wanita Indonesia yang memimpin perusahaan besar, menjadi atlet, ilmuan, hingga seorang diplomat handal.
