Dengan masuknya ITS di pemeringkatan ini, ITS sukses bersanding dengan jajaran perguruan tinggi terbaik dunia lainnya.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>THE merupakan salah satu lembaga paling kredibel di dunia dalam menyajikan data kinerja universitas, khususnya pada pemeringkatan universitas top global. Di tahun 2019 ini, THE kembali mengeluarkan pemeringkatan THE World Class University. Pada pemeringkatan WCU-nya tahun ini, terdapat lebih dari 1.250 universitas dari 86 negara yang berhasil merebut posisi top global. Termasuk di antaranya ITS dan empat universitas lainnya di Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Menanggapi hal ini, Wakil Rektor I Bidang Akademik dan Kemahasiswaan ITS Prof Dr Ir Heru Setyawan MEng, mengaku cukup bangga sekaligus gembira. Pasalnya, untuk kali pertamanya ITS berhasil masuk ke dalam pemeringkatan dunia yang bergengsi tersebut dan mengharumkan nama Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Heru mengungkapkan, ITS berhasil melewati persyaratan penting dalam pemeringkatan tersebut, yakni jumlah publikasi jurnal ilmiah ITS yang berhasil terindeks Scopus atau Web of Science telah mencapai target. \u201cHal ini mengingat adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam dua tahun terakhir ini,\u201d jelas Heru.<\/p>\n<p>Dikatakan Heru, ITS meningkatkan publikasi ilmiah dengan beberapa cara. Salah satunya dana untuk penelitian dalam beberapa tahun terakhir dinaikkan menjadi hampir empat kali lipat. \u201cSehingga timbul suasana kondusif dari dosen maupun mahasiswa untuk melakukan penelitian,\u201d ujar guru besar Teknik Kimia ITS ini.<\/p>\n<p>Alumnus doktoral Hiroshima University, Jepang ini menambahkan, untuk mendorong agar penelitian yang sudah dianggarkan ini berjalan dengan baik, salah satu strategi yang digunakan ialah memperbolehkan mahasiswa menjadi asisten peneliti. \u201cAsisten peneliti ini diharapkan dapat menjadi mesin penggerak bagi penelitian di ITS,\u201d sambung pria asal Madiun ini.<\/p>\n<p>Kedua, lanjut Heru, adalah adanya beasiswa Fresh Graduate yang diberikan kepada mahasiswa yang baru lulus dan berprestasi. Karena alumni baru cenderung memiliki kinerja akademik yang baik, sehingga diharapkan dapat membantu peningkatan publikasi jurnal dan ini sudah terbukti.<\/p>\n<p>Heru kembali menambahkan, ITS juga memberikan insentif bagi sivitas akademika yang berhasil mempublikasikan dengan baik jurnal yang terindeks tersebut. Di samping hal tersebut, ITS juga akan lebih memperbaiki branding dan hubungan dengan universitas global lain agar dapat semakin memperkuat status universitas bereputasi yang dimiliki.<\/p>\n<p>Di saat yang bersamaan, Times Higher Education juga mengeluarkan pemeringkatan universitas dengan kategori negara berkembang. Tercatat ada 442 universitas dari 43 negara yang bersaing dengan empat kampus top global Indonesia lainnya, dan ITS mantap berada di posisi 251-300. Sementara untuk pemeringkatan global secara keseluruhan, ITS berada di posisi 1001+.
