Adalah Agung Purwandoko, Muhammad Fawaid As\u2019ad, dan Muhammad Iqbal Alvani yang berhasil merancang inovasi energi terbarukan dari gelombang laut. Inovasi ini menggunakan teknologi Oscillating Water Column (OWC) dengan swing valve yang diberi nama WAGE (Wave Generator) untuk menghasilkan listrik di kawasan pesisir.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Karya tim mahasiswa Fakultas Teknologi Kelautan (FTK) ITS ini berhasil menyabet juara pertama pada Lomba Karya Tulis Ilmiah (LKTI) Nasional Gebyar Mahasiswa Perikanan Indonesia (Gemini) 2018 di Universitas Brawijaya. LKTI yang diketuai Agung ini memiliki studi kasus di Pantai Plengkung, Banyuwangi. Bukan tanpa alasan, dikatakan Agung, karena tempat ini mempunyai potensi yang besar untuk dikembangkan energi terbarukannya.<\/p>\n<p>Lebih lanjut Agung menambahkan, Pantai Plengkung yang berada di kawasan Hutan Alas Purwo ini mempunyai daya tarik wisata. Namun, akses menuju pantai ini tidaklah mudah karena mempunyai medan yang ekstrim. Hal ini berdampak pada penyaluran fasilitas listrik. \u201cKebutuhan listrik di daerah ini sebagian besar masih menggunakan diesel,\u201d ujar pria asal Banyuwangi ini.<\/p>\n<p>Tim kemudian mencari alternatif untuk merancang energi terbarukan dan ramah lingkungan karena melihat Pantai Plengkung mempunyai gelombang air laut yang baik. Salah satu teknologi yang paling populer untuk mengubah energi gelombang air laut menjadi energi listrik adalah Oscillating Water Column (OWC). \u201cPengaplikasian teknologi ini sangat cocok digunakan sebagai pembangkit listrik di Pantai Plengkung karena diletakkan di pesisir laut,\u201d tegas Agung.<\/p>\n<p>Namun, ia melanjutkan, OWC memiliki tingkat efisiensi yang rendah karena OWC hanya akan menghasilkan energi listrik saat gelombang pasang pada kolom. Sedangkan saat gelombang surut, OWC tidak bisa menghasilkan energi listrik. Sehingga suplai udara ke generator untuk memutar turbin tidak berkelanjutan.<\/p>\n<p>Tim yang dibimbing oleh Dr Ir Setyo Nugroho MSc PhD ini membuat inovasi OWC dengan menggunakan swing valve yang diberi nama WAGE (Wave Generator). Dikatakan Agung, sistem katup pada WAGE ini diharapkan akan meningkatkan efisiensi energi. \u201cKarena WAGE ini akan menghasilkan listrik tidak hanya saat kondisi gelombang pasang tetapi juga saat gelombang surut,\u201d terangnya kepada ITS Online.<\/p>\n<p>Setelah itu, inovasi ini diuji dengan menggunakan wave maker. Hasil daya yang didapatkan pada pengujian yaitu sebesar 3,12 Watt. Nilai daya tersebut mengalami peningkatan 34 persen dibandingkan dengan teknologi OWC sebelum dilakukan inovasi yang hanya menghasilkan daya sebesar 2,47665 Watt. \u201cSetelah diuji WAGE ini menunjukkan peningkatan efisiensi yang lebih baik. Sehingga kami berharap WAGE mampu membantu memenuhi kebutuhan listrik di pesisir,\u201d pungkas Agung.
