Indonesia &#8211; Malaysia Research Consortium (IMRC) 2018 hasil kerja sama Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) dengan Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) mengundang pembicara inti. Adalah Prof Dr Arshad Bin Ahmad, Director Institute of Future Energy UTM yang memaparkan hasil risetnya terkait penggunaan hidrogen sebagai alternatif energi terbarukan, Rabu (21\/11).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Arshad yang telah lama bergelut di dunia riset energi terbarukan ini melihat hidrogen sebagai sesuatu yang spesial. Ia memaparkan, jika dibandingkan 2000 dan 2016 ada peningkatan dalam jumlah kebutuhan energi di kawasan asia tenggara. \u201cIndonesia yang tertinggi diikuti Thailand dan terjadi peningkatan sebanyak 40 persen yang didominasi oleh kebutuhan transportasi,\u201d jelasnya.<\/p>\n<p>Penggunaan bioenergi yang ramah lingkungan, sambungnya, sebenarnya meningkat dari sektor infrastruktur karena banyak yang menggunakan pendekatan arsitektur hijau. \u201cNamun tetap saja itu masih belum mencukupi, karena penggunanya tidak banyak,\u201d ucap dosen Teknik Kimia UTM ini.<\/p>\n<p>Arshad memprediksi bahwa pada 2040 kebutuhan energi akan meningkat 60-70 persen. Akibatnya, dunia khususnya asia tenggara menjadi tidak seimbang antara ketersediaan dan kebutuhan energinya. \u201cJangan sampai kita menjadi pengimpor energi dari negara-negara lain,\u201d serunya.<\/p>\n<p>Oleh karenanya, ia mengusung ide penggunaan hidrogen sebagai alternatif energi terbarukan. Menurut Arshad, hidrogen memberikan solusi dari permasalahan keterbatasan energi yang ramah lingkungan. Hidrogen bisa digunakan sebagai sumber energi, penyimpanan energi, pembawa energi, hingga digunakan untuk keperluan infrastruktur.<\/p>\n<p>Selain itu, seringkali dalam proses transmisi terjadi kehilangan energi sampai 30 persen. Namun, Arshad menuturkan, beda halnya ketika hidrogen dibakar maka yang dihasilkan adalah air. \u201cJadi tidak ada gas rumah kaca atau karbon yang dapat merusak lingkungan,\u201d terangnya.<\/p>\n<p>Di hadapan para peserta IMRC 2018, Arshad mengajak untuk mendahulukan penggunaan energi terbarukan dan mengurangi penggunaan energi batubara, minyak, gas dan lainnya. Kampanye seperti ini, sambungnya, sudah sangat umum di Eropa. Masing-masing rumah memiliki solar panel, jadi mereka tidak perlu membayar kebutuhan energi untuk aktivitasnya sehari-hari. \u201cMalahan mereka dibayar sebagai net exporter walaupun tidak banyak,\u201d ungkapnya.<\/p>\n<p>Untuk mewujudkan hal ini, dikatakan Arshad, dibutuhkan instruktur sesuai persyaratan energi terbarukan tersebut. Masalah yang muncul seperti akuisisi tanah, biaya kompensasi, harus bisa diatasi oleh pihak-pihak terkait. \u201cKita tidak bisa meningkatkan sumber energi yang sudah ada, tapi cobalah explore alternatif-alternatif lain. Optimasi dengan baik, jika berhasil, maka akan sangat bagus,\u201d serunya.
