Bertempat di Harris Hotel &amp; Convention, Dewi menyampaikan bahwa Ia menggunakan insang dan sisik ikan sebagai biomarker atau indikator biologis adanya pencemaran air pada sungai.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Percobaan biomarker ini dilakukan di Sungai Porong. Sungai Porong merupakan sungai \u00a0yang menjadi kubangan dari lumpur Sidoarjo. Penelitian Dewi terhadap insang dan sisik ikan menemukah hasil bahwa di Sungai Porong telah terjadi pencemaran air. \u201cTerdapat kandungan berupa aluminium dan besi yang tinggi pada air. Hal ini berarti bahwa Sungai Porong memiliki air dalam kondisi asam dan dinyatakan tercemar,\u201d jelasnya.<\/p>\n<p>Dewi menyampaikan bahwa kandungan alumunium dan besi yang terdeteksi pada Sungai Porong diketahui karena adanya perubahan struktur insang dan sisik ikan. Perubahan tersebut diketahui dengan membandingkan struktur insang dan sisik ikan sebelum dan sesudah dimasukkan di Sungai Porong melalui mikroskop elektron. Kandungan besi yang kuat juga diketahui dari penurunan jumlah kromatofora atau sel-sel yang mengandung pigmen dan memantulkan cahaya pada sisik ikan.<\/p>\n<p>Dewi mengatakn adanya penemuan dari biomarker ini terkait pencemaran lingkungan dapat mendorong warga di sekitar Sungai Porong untuk lebih waspada dan berhati-hati dalam penggunaan air. \u201cDiharapkan hal ini dapat menjadi peringatan dini adanya pencemaran air ,\u201d tegasnya.<\/p>\n<p>Selain itu, berkaca dari biomarker yang ia buat, Dewi mengatakan bahwa indikator biologis dinilai sangat penting untuk mendeteksi berbagai macam hal, termasuk bencana atau kerusakan lingkungan sejak dini. \u201cPenggunaan indikator biologis ini tidak memakan waktu lama dan relatif murah terlebih di Indonesia yang memiliki keanekaragaman hayati yang beragam,\u201d ucapnya.
