Bekerja sama dengan Rotary Club, ITS menyelesaikan permasalahan air dan lingkungan di tiga desa melalui gerakan Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rotary Club sendiri merupakan organisasi internasional yang bergerak di bidang kemanusiaan, pemecahan masalah, dan kegiatan sukarelawanan lainnya. Organisasi tersebut tersebar hampir di 150 negara lainnya. Untuk melaksanakan pengabdian masyarakat kali ini, ITS dan Rotary Club mengandeng Desa Padusan di Kabupaten Mojokerto, Desa Marmoyo di Kabupaten Jombang, dan Desa Sorowiti di Kabupaten Gresik.<\/p>\n<p>Ir Eddy Setiadi Soedjono DiplSE MSc PhD selaku penanggung jawab WASH mengatakan kegiatan ini bertujuan membantu dan melatih masyarakat agar bisa mengatasi permasalahan air minum, sanitasi dan kesehatan. Audiensi dengan pemerintah daerah serta rangkaian dialogi dengan warga telah dilakukan guna menjabarkan permasalahan di masing-masing daerah.<\/p>\n<p>Dari hasil survey PDPM dan Rotary Club, ketiga wilayah tersebut ternyata menghadapi permasalahan yang berbeda. Di Desa Marmoyo misalnya, permasalahan yang terjadi berupa kurangnya sumber air minum yang layak bagi masyarakat. Sementara itu Desa Pasudan justru banyak sumber mata air yang diambil secara ilegal terutama oleh bisnis penginapan ataupun villa. Sedangkan permasalahan yang cukup berbeda terjadi di Desa Sorowati, dimana airnya asin hingga tak layak konsumsi.<\/p>\n<p>Ketiga desa tersebut pun membutuhkan perlakuan yang berbeda. Edot mengatakan, rencananya untuk Desa Marmoyo akan dibuat tandon air serta pemasangan pipa yang akan mengalirkan air ke rumah-rumah warga. Sementara guna mencegah pencurian air di Desa Pasudan, nantinya akan dipasang meteran air. \u201cSedangkan untuk Desa Sorowati penanganannya bisa bermacam-macam, salah satunya menggunakan membran untuk mengolah air agar tidak asin lagi,\u201d paparnya.<\/p>\n<p>Selain masalah air, sanitasi juga menjadi perhatian tim WASH. Mereka pun mencanangkan pengadaan kloset dan jamban di rumah warga yang belum mempunyai akses sanitasi yang layak. Menurut Edot, yang menjadi tantangan dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan tersebut adalah bagaimana menjalin hubungan kerja sama yang baik dengan warganya. \u201cBelum tentu semua warga mau terbuka dan merasa nyaman untuk melaksanakan WASH,\u201d ujar pria yang meraih gelar PhD di University of Birmingham tersebut.<\/p>\n<p>Untuk merealisasikan semua rencana terhadap tiga desa tersebut, PDPM ITS dan Rotary Club memerlukan waktu kurang lebih selama dua tahun. Ia pun menegaskan bahwa dalam kegiatan WASH ini tidak akan memberikan bantuan secara serta merta layaknya hadiah. Akan ada edukasi bagi warga, sebagaimana tujuan WASH itu sendiri. \u201cAda tahapan yang harus disusun secara matang mulai dari perencanaan, konstruksi, implementasi, hingga operasi serta pemeliharaannya,\u201d pungkasnya.
