Beberapa penelitian telah dilakukan untuk mengganti bahan bakar pesawat terbang jenis jet ini dengan bioavtur, yakni avtur berbahan dasar minyak kelapa sawit. Sayangnya, hasil produksi bioavtur dari minyak kelapa sawit tersebut dinilai masih kurang ekonomis karena mahal bahan bakunya.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Berangkat dari masalah tersebut, tiga mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) berupaya mencari bentuk produksi bioavtur yang lebih efektif dan efisien. Konvensionalnya, minyak kelapa sawit disuling dengan menggunakan katalis SiO2 (silika). Namun dengan cara tersebut, bioavtur yang dihasilkan hanya sebanyak 36 persen dari volume minyak kelapa sawit. \u201cSudah katalisnya mahal, hasilnya pun sedikit,\u201d ucap Mabrur Zanata, ketua tim penelitian ini.<\/p>\n<p>Sehingga tercetuslah ide untuk mengganti katalisatornya dengan abu sekam padi. Tentu saja tidak dengan pertimbangan yang sedikit. Mabrur bertutur, total produksi gabah di Indonesia sangatlah besar, mencapai angka 70,87 juta ton tiap tahunnya. Mahasiswa Departemen Teknik Kimia ini mengaku cukup lama waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk mengolah sekam padi hingga menjadi silika. \u201cPertama-tama, kami harus mengaktifkannya menggunakan asam klorida, kemudian menghilangkan pengotor dengan proses kalsinasi,\u201d papar Mabrur.<\/p>\n<p>Tidak sampai di situ, lanjutnya, proses berlanjut dengan melakukan impregnasi silika dengan logam nikel. \u201cDi tahap ini kami baru menyelesaikan katalisnya,\u201d tutur mahasiswa asal Bogor ini.<\/p>\n<p>Katalis tersebut kemudian direaksikan dengan minyak kelapa sawit yang beragam persentase katalisnya dalam dua variabel suhu yaitu 300 dan 400 derajat celcius. \u201cHasil paling optimum yang kami dapat ialah 45,17 persen bioavtur yang didapat dari perbandingan katalis dan minyak kelapa sawit sebesar 3:100,\u201d beber Mabrur menerangkan hasil penelitian tiga sekawan ini.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34604\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34604\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34604\" src=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-08-20-at-09.54.21-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-08-20-at-09.54.21-1.jpeg 1280w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-08-20-at-09.54.21-1-300x150.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-08-20-at-09.54.21-1-768x384.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-08-20-at-09.54.21-1-1024x512.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.its.ac.id\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/08\/WhatsApp-Image-2018-08-20-at-09.54.21-1-355x178.jpeg 355w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34604\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mabrur Zanata, anggota tim, sedang menguji di laboratorium<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hasil penelitian tersebut sempat dipresentasikan dalam gelaran International Seminar on Science and Technology 2018, pada 9 Agustus lalu. Guna menyempurnakan hasil ini, Mabrur berencana menggunakan dua variabel perbandingan katalis lain, yaitu senilai 7 persen dan 9 persen.<\/p>\n<p>Penelitian ini sukses memperoleh pendanaan dari Kementerian Riset, Teknologi, dan Pendidikan Tinggi (Kemenristekdikti) melalui Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM). Tak hanya itu, tiga mahasiswa tingkat dua ini juga berhak melaju ke ajang bergengsi Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional (Pimnas), akhir Agustus mendatang di Yogyakarta.
