Inovasi elektroda karya tiga mahasiswa Departemen Fisika ITS ini diberi nama EL-NANO (Elektroda Nanokarbon).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sulistiyawati Dewi Kiniasih, Michael Lianto, dan Irma Septi Ardiani adalah mahasiswa yang menginisiasi EL-NANO ini. Superkapasitor adalah penyimpan energi yang memiliki kapasitas penyimpanan muatan yang besar serta proses pengisian dan pengosongan muatan yang cepat.<\/p>\n<p>Ketua tim, Sulistiyawati Dewi Kiniasih mengatakan, timnya membuat bahan superkapasitor tersebut dengan elektroda nanokarbon karena saat ini nanokarbon menjadi perhatian para peneliti. \u201cNanokarbon ini memiliki ukuran yang kecil dan memiliki luas permukaan yang tinggi,\u201d jelasnya.<\/p>\n<p>Ia menyebutkan bahwa dengan luas permukaan yang tinggi tersebut, elektroda semakin banyak menyerap ion sehingga nilai kapasitansinya meningkat.<\/p>\n<p>Dewi mengungkapkan, persediaan limbah jerami di Indonesia terbilang melimpah. Tetapi, ia menilai, limbah tersebut selama ini belum dimanfaatkan secara maksimal. \u201cPadahal jerami padi mengandung 36,5 persen selulosa, 33,8 persen hemiselulosa, dan 12,3 persen lignin,\u201d ujarnya.<\/p>\n<p>Melihat kandungan tersebut, ia menuturkan bahwa limbah jerami padi ini berpotensi menjadi bahan baku pembuatan elektroda. \u201cSetelah dilakukan beberapa penelitian, potensi tersebut benar adanya,\u201d aku mahasiswi yang biasa disapa Dewi ini.<\/p>\n<p>Pasalnya, lanjut Dewi, kapasitansi EL-NANO yang berbahan limbah jerami padi ini mampu mencapai 36,68 F\/g (baca: Farad per gram) setelah diuji voltametri siklik. Voltametri merupakan teknik dalam elektrokimia. \u201cAngka kapasitansi EL-NANO jauh lebih besar daripada baterai dan kapasitor yang dijual di masyarakat,\u201d terangnya secara gamblang.<\/p>\n<p>Sebagai salah satu Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa Penelitian Eksakta (PKM-PE) terdanai oleh Dikti, Dewi berharap agar diberi kemudahan untuk penelitian ini ke depannya. Ia dan timnya juga berharap bisa lolos dan mendapat kesempatan untuk berlaga di Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional (Pimnas) ke-31 di Jogjakarta.
